Hello everyone I just purchased last fall my first Ferrari for my 60th birthday which is this june.
It is a 456GT 1994 manual rosso corsa European version ( no airbag=better looking steering wheel).
This dream started as a Matchbox diecast 250 Berlinetta Lusso that I had in 1964 for my tenth birthday wich for me is the most beautiful car ever. The 456 is reminescent and a true GT as Enzo intended to be being his last project before his passing, it has being a 50 years long wait.
I will try to add pictures but having difficulties so far.
    Best regards, Denis

You will enjoy every minute in the car.

Few things to entertain sorting out: fuel lines and disintegrating rubber at fuel pumps, engine mounts, coolant hoses under plenum, ECU's which produce many "Slow Down" engine lights.

You will the love the torque of the engine in all gears.

    Best

Oh, don't be concerned about it being hard to shift into second gear before the engine is thoroughly warmed up: they all do it.

    Big congrats on the 456.

Such beautiful lines, especially the back that reminds me of the Daytona.

    Get the pics up!

    Congrat's Denis:

+1 on what Mr. V and TZ750 said. Took me almost 2 years to realize that you can just shift from 1st to 3rd for the first mile or so to avoid the 2nd gear dilemma. Makes life a whole lot easier. Doesn't take long to get the transaxle fluid up to speed, but, from a cold start, 2nd gear can feel like a brick-wall. Also, be aware, no transaxle fluid is flowing with the clutch in. Idling in neutral with the clutch out also helps get the transmission ready.....

Also, I'm beginning to believe the tires need warming up too. The winter down here in the tropics has been a little colder than usual. A couple of times with tire temps at below 50F (10C), I've had loss of control (rather dramatic fishtailing on dry pavement) with near full throttle in 1st and 2nd on my P-Zeros. Wonder if others have noticed this? Probably has always been the case... I just usually don't drive that hard with cold tires. Might be something worth considering if you start out with tires at 0C! Another member recently commented on the handling characteristics and accident potential of the 456..... stating: When it goes...it's gone.... and I'm thinking cold tires exacerbate this otherwise infrequent trait.

Enjoy your car.... Mark in Houston

Thank you all for your kind words and infos.
To be honest the 456 is a model that I was not familiar with but once I sat inside and test ride it I was more than impressed.
For me it fells like "home sweet home" as far as my expectations of what an ideal exotic car should be.

    Congratulations: beautiful car!
Love the steering wheel and the dash without air bags.

There is no reason for not being able to shift into 2nd gear from cold start.

Use the old technique needed for cars without a sinchronized gearbox: shift from 1st into neutral, release the clutch, depress the clutch and shift into 2nd...smooth like butter....
Sometimes, in very cold weather, it may be necessary to tap the gas while into neutral and then shift into 2nd while the rpms are dropping.

Yes I am familiar with the "double clutch", drove a few tractor-trailor rigs and my my Jaguar XKE 3.8l with a Moss "crash box".
Before the 456 I was interested in an Aston Martin Vanquish 2005 being a British sport car fan & love the design but once sat inside I have to say that I was disapointed, the feeling was'nt there.
The Ferrari met my expectations and more for a lesser price than the Aston.
