I'm busy with the timing belt, but I want to be sure that i turn the nut the right way.

Wich way do I have to turn to remove the nut? Clockwise or counterclockwise to remove?

Lock the crankshaft and it is a conventional nut that removes counter-clockwise.

Technically it is a bolt that is not a stretch bolt. Tightening torque i believe is 215Nm (off top of my head).

Are you just slapping belts on?
    Are you replacing tensioner bearings?
    How are the camshaft seals?

Be careful with the 1-6 bank exhaust cam. With the engine at TDC #1, the exhaust valves on #6 are very close to the piston and I have seen people bend those two valves if the camshaft moves.

    Hi All,

How do you lock the crankshaft on the V12, the 612 in particular. Is there a slot? Thanks and regards.

Hello, if you can stretch your budget Ricambi has a tool to lock the clutch about $ 220 from Hill enginering. Once I asked him if he has the instruction how to fit the tool he said no. Others recommend put the gear in fifth. Most recommend using impact wrench. Again at the end you should torque it to specified number and solve it your own way.

Bill, I believe that crank locking tool is very valuable while working on cams and the cylinder # 1 is at TDC gives you the safety that nothing moves. On other hand I think it can be done without it.

I know this in an old thread, but regarding the tool, it looks like some have used a particular pvc fitting. Here is a pic from AW Italian and I've seen others.

I've seen that fitting before at Home Depot. I going to see if I can find it today.

    Anyone used that?

Stu- I was trying to figure out how to lock the flywheel with that piece. Difficult, I would think.

Sorry for screwing up this thread. I got to get more sleep. Here is my pulley tool:

    36mm Socket
    1/2" Breaker Bar
    Floor Jack Handle
    Duct Tape
    Dog to mock me

Worked great with this. I coudn't get the air gun between the bracket on the front frame and the pulley bolt. Think my motor is sagging (motor mounts on order).
