Scott Wheeler of Radar-Mirror fitted a Homelink garage door opener system into my 575M's dome light assembly. Required him to cut the lower left corner of the interior of the bulb holder surround to fit, but overall a pretty neat fit. I will have it wired through the driver's reading lamp so I can be sure it will cause no drain on the battery when not in use. Will require me to hit the lamp switch first and then the button, but that is no big deal. Cost for the conversion $299. For the purists, I have a spare dome light assembly, so the next owner can change it back if he likes. Takes about 5 minutes to remove the assembly from the headliner.

First photo shows the underside with the Homelink system in the lower left corner, expoxied in, and the two wires to power the system. Second photo shows the way she fits in the 575M, with the lamp cover removed. Last photo shows the complete assembly with lamp cover, three Homelink buttons, and LED indicator.

Originally thought to put it in my rear view mirror, but that would have required running power to the dome light assembly. Much simpler this way and easier to reverse.

Looks very nice, I'm pretty sure the Homelink doesn't draw any power unless a button is pushed and it transmits the rolling code.

Wow - great! Can he do same in a 456m? Seems we have similar sized dome assembly

We already have that feature on our fobs, It would be a piece of cake to put it in the dome light but why?

I did not know that. I thought you only locked the car and opened the boot. My bad.

EL- Affirmative, should not be much of a problem on the 456/456M.

Dave- For me, reaching up and pushing the button is easier than finding it on a fob with my head down. I had a keychain garage door opener and it was always going off unintentionally in my pocket so I gave up on it. I have too much stuff in my pockets.

Will have to think about hot wiring the power to the Homelink. Still makes me nervous. That is why I had him leave the wires loose so I could think about it.

Taz, just put an ammeter in series with the board's power connections and you can see when it draws power and how much. Most DVM's these days have a DC milliamp scale.

Since that's the transmitter, I'm with Dave and would bet it draws no power when it's not being used.

I've measured several different rolling code transmitter/receiver pairs (albeit not Homelink) and the transmitters pull no power until you hit the button.

Scott at Radar-Mirror.com buys them in bulk, I am sure. Would not be that hard to do yourself if you could find the parts. Since Scott has all the templates for drilling and installing the buttons and LED, figured I would do it the easy way.

John- Good point, but will probably just ask Scott.

The only way it'll really look factory is if the buttons get the stickies....

Seriously it looks great and I love Homelink. I hope you can wire it in and not worry about battery drain.

Duane- Mine never got the stickies except the parking brake handle, but I can break out the molasses if it will make you feel better.

Easily possible to wire so it will have no affect on the battery, but am hoping it is not necessary. Would rather hot wire it to the dome entry light.

Really a nice touch. And a shame it didn't come with Homelink in the first place.
