We had a glorious day out here in the flatlands exploring Fall colors with about 120,000 HP of fine automobiles. The 456m did quite well keeping up and in some cases outdoing many including several Porsche turbo 911's I was proud to see :)

What I can't rationalize is that over 210 miles of driving her harder than ever in sport mode, and I mean hard, downshifting from 60mph to 2nd into (gorgeous) hairpin turns and then flooring it time and time again, I got the best gas mileage in months. Up almost 1.5mpg.

So is this a sign something else is wrong and the car in sport helped rectify? I use as a daily. Or should my commute just occur at 100mph from now on?

If you're getting over 13 mpg, you're doing it wrong.

First rule of driving a Ferrari V12: Only calculate your gas consumption once, and that should scare you enough to never do it again. Has worked for 6 years on this one and for three years on the Daytona. That is why they come with huge fuel tanks.

The V12s are very ineffecient around town and at low speeds. Better, but still abysmal, at higher speeds. EPA around 10/16. My wife's 5800 lb GL 550 gets way better consumption.

Lucky the 575M has a 29 gallon fuel tank.

My 355 gets about the same MPG around town as the 575M.

I don't drive very much because I work from home, and I have nine cars right now.

It's '32 Roadster season right now.

    Terry,
Perhaps it is time that you tell the group about driving from RAFB to Clovis, NM and arriving before you left. That could possibly explain the poor mileage your Daytona got.

Tex- Actually I drove from Poughkeepsie, NY to Clovis, NM (~1700 miles) when I picked up the Dino 246 GT. It was only 800 or so miles from Houston, TX to Clovis when I picked up the Daytona. Used a bunch of oil, but resealed herself, so the return trip when I traded her on a Boxer, she used none. Had been sitting too long, I guess. Chaps them off to sit.

Fuel consumption on both was pretty miserable, but who cared? Premium was about $1 per gallon.

Terry, in that photo the techs are pouring in 100 octane gas at $10 a gallon.

Barry- Should have used 110/130 avgas. Would have been cheaper. Until it ate the seals, at any rate.

That is almost what we pay for at the "pump" in most Europeans countries - currently at 7.5USD in Germany for Premium.

Gasoline prices are dropping like an anchor here in the US. Regular around $2.75/gallon or $0.73/liter here in Albuquerque.

That's really good! I get 7 mpg at Sears Point or Thunderhill. Driving home with the A/C on I get about 16. But I'm using cheapo 92 octane.

Wow...2.75USD a gallon...inflation adjusted it is probably the cheapest gasoline has ever been in a very long time.

So much for the "runaway inflation" doomsayers...

Can't blame the Fed, ECB, etc. for running the printing presses.

I do not believe there is anything is wrong with your car: I have similar experiences when driving out of town as the car was meant to be.
In town sometime I am led to believe I have a fuel leak somewhere, but when I go for long spirited drives with FCA groups, the mileage improves significantly to 12+ mpg.
A V12 is just not the best solution to run errands around town.

I'm driving a manual 6 gear GT since 18 months now, 25.000 km since in Holland using it for fun and welding inspection trips within Europe, overal fuel consumption is 6.0 km/l : around 13 MPG. At higher speed in Germany (200 kph) fuel consumption decreases to 15 MPG: so pedal to the metal for glory and environment

Yes, but Germany has free Socialized Health Care from those gas taxes...
The crude gas does not cost anymore in either country, it is your country's social taxes
