guys, i was just wondering how hard everyone else drives their cars. i change gear at (or just before) redline. I drive her hard. i treat her well. i drive her hard. repeat. ad nauseum. somewhere in that is "grin like a loon". repeatedly.
i do not drive hard, but i exercise the gears. It is a GT car for me. The cayman s was my sports car.
On public roads I try to keep it nice and easy. But next month it's circuit time again, and then she has to perform!!
On public roads with speed limit I potter around like in a Yong Li sedan . On the highway without speed limit, if there are three lanes and just very little traffic, I go 250+, but only if I have somewhat recently checked that the floor panels are fixed properly (watch out, sometimes some screws get lost, sometimes a workshop does not refit all of them). Sudden aerodynamic changes under the car at high speeds may be "adventureous". Once or twice a year I enjoy trackdays. But generally at about 90% only (revs, brakes, cornering). Cheers, Bernhard

Right, PAP! These guys knew how to drive a 550. New York City to Los Angeles... . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Usually, don't go much faster with my cars, a speed of 180-210 km/h is for me quiet relaxing on a drive at the german autobahn. Anything above 220 km/h needs a lot attention, there are plenty of slower cars around, it's not a race track. So with my Ferrari, I feel comfortable at the same speed level.... Saluti, Jürgen
Last two weekends in row have really driven her hard. Driving some canyon roads way too fast with two 430's, a Gallardo and a Lotus. Have some troubles keeping up in the corners but a lot of fun.
Spirited is the best description here: Red line in second gear will take you into bookable territory. Red line 3rd gear will get you in serious trouble. Red line 4th ... yes warden
I just drive her normally and try to make it last long. Do some 180 mph. exercizes every now and then but except for that take it quite easy.
I've tracked her 3 times in the last 2 years since purchasing her, redlined in both 3rd and 4th. Found that when I up shifted from redline to fifth it didn't engage a few times and went to neutral which was upsetting, but I couldn't repeat the issue when I tried. Not sure how fast I was going in 5th cause honestly I was focusing on the road, not the tach at that point. Driven her quite fast several times on roads out of the city (empty country roads) but not like at the track where I prefer to let her out. Clyde Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can't say that I hit redline in 5th for sure though. I am only sure that I hit redline in 3rd and 4th. Clyde Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
You mean the Rev Limiter is not the Shift indicator? haha! I have never taken my 575 to the red line but will tell you that when I have an open deserted highway and shift thru the gears its like a magic carpet ride when I hit 4th and 5th gears. It feels like the car is flying right out from under the seat of my pants and pushes my shoulders into the seat back.
Depends who has the keys. I drive the 550 fairly hard but with a sort of 'tuxedo respect' since the local police seem to enjoy chatting with me. My wife, on the other hand, drives it like she's in a Michael Bay film and has, so far, eluded prison.
