Yes, I know there are VERY few 456 cars
that are "unusual" in a good sense.

    The "Schumacher" edition might be
one of those, which this car is not.

My attention was drawn to this car
(I have NO relationship to the seller)
    because of the combination of:

    Late production (2003)

    Low miles @ 8,300

    livable color scheme

    and apparent affordability.

    Ferrari 456 M GTA | eBay

There are many of us that have said we would
keep and drive a 456, EXCEPT FOR:
(Insert on of a 100 reasons.........)

But THIS car might be the choice for
somebody that was willing to "enjoy" a 456
for another 20 years at 3,000 miles a year.

    And yes,

"there is no such thing as an entry level
Ferrari when you drive it in for service...."

    Cheers, Scott

Having owned three (3) previous 456 cars,
I was wondering if this particular car would draw me back in......

But, to protect myself from falling down
another "Ferrari rabbit hole" (I currently own two),
    I quit bidding under $40 k

The car now sits at $48 k.

If this is REALLY a good car,
    what's a reasonable price ?

    $50k ?

    $60 k ?

    $70k ?

    What other low-miles, v-12
Enzo era car IS THERE ?

I've had my 456M GTA for almost 9 years now. Yes, it has been expensive, but when I took it for a drive yesterday, I felt that I really couldn't enjoy another car more than what I was doing at the moment (probably a function of age that I didn't hanker for a top down drive in a 458).

The pictured car looks quite nice. The only things that jumped out at me were the leather shrinkage around the passenger airbag and the sticky-no-more hvac control plate replacement. I would be concerned about ultra low mileage, especially in a warm, dry climate. Not good for hoses, etc.

(BTW, wasn't the 456 the first design of the Montezemolo era, not the last of the Enzo era?)

I paid 82 k for the same year, 3800 miles and immaculate about 3 yrs ago - mine is TDF with tan.

if someone loves the 456M GTA and wants a low mile I say go for it

This 456 has been available on ebay for several months, once bringing 67K (USD) but did not meet the reserve. I'm sure the seller now regrets not taking it.

    I had a TdF 456 6-speed with
tan, and I regret releasing it !

    Liked the color combination so
much that I replicated it in my 575 !

IF is was in for another F-car at about
    $82k, I would either get a 550 or a 575.

    MAYBE a 612............

I'd take a 550/575 at $82k even if it had 38,000(!!) miles on the odo- and consider myself very, VERY lucky/fortunate!!

Now that the 612 subject has been snuck in.......

    There is this:

    Ferrari 612 2dr Coupe | eBay

Perhaps more attractive that the Gray / cream,
with the pretty blue Mirabeau and tan/blue interior.

I would have preferred a "dark dash" to avoid
reflections in the windshield (and they did
select the blue for the package shelf !)

More modern car, but similar style and 2+2

larger, maybe better, 5.7 liter motor

    F1 transmission (I like a GOOD 6-speed, and
the auto has a place, and I sometimes like
the auto over the F-1 transmission)

    "only" about 12K miles.

Will the F1 ever find it's rightful place in history?
I rarely liked the feel of my F1 612, but clicking through the gated gears of the 456... wonderful!

Is that my age talking? Is it because of the cars I grew up with and what I am accustomed to? I really don't know, other than to say it doesn't look like I'm alone.

The F1 feels like a mistake.
A 6 speed feels nostalgic and inspiring.
An auto feels like a familiar (if boring) piece of machinery.

As I've said before, I miss a manual the 10% of the time I drive on back roads on a pretty weekend morning. But driving on the interstate, in stop and go traffic or slogging around town, I'm more than happy with the slushbox. I'm grateful for it.

Mine is an automatic which is what I wanted...

In the long run people will appreciate the nostalgia of a gear selector automatic transmission because it's so rare on a Ferrari.

I know there is a premium on stick but it's not a huge difference, the automatics will also go up in value and become very desirable in 10 years.

When I shopped around I did not see a huge price difference between auto and stick so the market is not telling us that the auto is boring.

She sat in FoSF's showroom about 2 years when new. No wonder all the 456Ms are rare.

Lots of comments in previous threads about the undesirability of Grigio Ingrid. My car was probably a few thousand cheaper because of it. The subtlety of the color has grown on me and really complements the cuoio/sabbia interior. A fairly large proportion of 456s were produced in Ingrid and it has been around as a regularly available color for a long time (unlike quite a few others) so there must be at least SOME demand for it.

When I was searching for a 550 Grigio Ingrid was the only color I would accept.

It is not the color itself that is the issue.
The 456 is an understated car, to make it "F car-level" exciting you need an interesting color scheme imho. I like them with contrasting color schemes, such as blue/tan, CdF/red, black/tan or black/red. GI/tan is not really up there in my book.

    Really beautiful car there, Terry.

That's a lovely 456. 456M GTA was the first Ferrari I ever test drove from the manufacturer. Conversely, as Taz implies, it's something they had to push at the time.

I would suggest that in Europe, that car would sell for more than it's currently headed for in the States.

I bought my 612 in Grigio Ingrid because of that 375 on which it's 'inspired.'
A wonderful color that can be silver, beige, or gold depending on the lighting.

The Bergmann (Roberto Rossellini's actually) 375 MM 0456AM really was a beautiful Ferrari. Even prettier with her in it.
