RM Sothebys auction next month. 40k km. no estimates published yet. 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello WSR | Paris 2017 | RM Sotheby's Another site claims these estimates are all POA (or EOA). Some other interesting cars up then also.
Previously offered but no sale in 2015 against a £220-£260k estimate range. Historics at Brooklands - Specialist Classic and Sports Car Auctioneers - REF 32 2000 Ferrari 550 World Speed Record Edition
Will be interesting to see what it sells for. Wonder what is different on the exhaust. By looking at the tail pipes, the rear mufflers are probably different.
To clarify, the subject car [ZFFZR49B000120147] failed to sell at the Historics at Brooklands sale on November 28, 2015. The 'optimistic' estimate range was most likely to blame for the no-sale but the vendor's ambitions may have been propelled by the fact that Brooklands actually managed to sell a similar LHD WSR with 40,707kms nine months earlier at their earlier March 7, 2015 sale [ZFFZR49B000123215 in Rosso Corsa over Beige with 19" 575M modulars ] for a record GBP179,200 which I considered to be about double the going rate for a 'normal' LHD 550 at that time... Estimate is now up on RM's website. €230-250k. I'd be surprised if it doesn't go for more than that.
Shame the vendor didn't go 'without reserve' and shame he didn't get around to cleaning up the surface corrosion on those front disc brakes!
The car which sold for £179,200 was in Historics' auction 2 years ago. This one is coming up for auction 8 Feb this year.
A RHD WSR coming up for auction in Feb....... 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello World Speed Record - Silverstone Auctions
So the rare (because: Rosso) WSR in LHD with 40k kms in Paris carries a €230k (£200k) low estimate and the rare (because: RHD) WSR in Grigio with as yet unspecified mileage carries a slightly lower low estimate of £180k. I can't quite get my head around either of these estimates but let's see what happens.
Makes perfect sense to me. Even though currency markets are liquid and adjust quickly, prices on goods don't. Inflation due to a weaker pound has not fully set in the UK.
Based on this incomplete & unofficial source... Tag VIN - Ferrari ...there could be 10x 'identical' UK RHD Grigio/Bordeaux 550 WSR out there, but we don't know the milage of this one - although it presents well in the photos provided. There are fewer Rosso/Nero cars out there but they may all be LHD and there is an old chestnut out there that states that RHD 'modern-classic' Ferrari's are 'worth' 30% more than their LHD equivalents on the UK market so the vendor has taken the initiative of offering his car in Paris. This worked out rather well for the owner of an ultra low kms LHD 575M manual sold for EUR345k at Bonhams this time last year but the WSR tribute cars, as rare as they are, do not appear to have anywhere near the same level of interest. Are we anywhere closer to working out the whereabouts of the actual record breaking car (see below)? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The WSR was basically a 550 with all the salads, correct? Nothing anyone else couldn't have with FHP and sports seats, plus a bit of roll cage and carbon? No more power, same brakes, suspension, exactly the same to drive as a 550 with FHP? So it's more like one of those 'edition' Fords where they throw all the equipment at it and market it.
Darius- Like a Corvette Pace Car. Only the plaque and a rumored alcantara steering wheel to distinguish it from an optioned 550. At least on the Pace Car, you got fancy paint and graphics like the 60th Anniversary 599 HGTEs. Chevy let you pick your own options. FE4 or Z51 vs FHP.
I would love to see a copy of the original Road & Track review or some other information about the actual car (or cars?) that was prepared for the record. Allegedly, there was some video footage on the Ferrari.com website at one time but it is long gone. You would have thought that the actual record breaking car would have surfaced again by now - if it still exists, or perhaps it is in some collectors warehouse somewhere. I read somewhere that the actual record breaking car's suspension was referred to as the "Carozzeria Scaglietti sports kit" but perhaps that was identical to the FHP kit. Other differences included the fitment of tyre pressure monitoring system and an auxiliary fuel tank with a dry-break/quick release system (to speed-up refueling but curiously, the capacity was reported to have have been just 7.9 US gallons which seems small). Finally, an electrical backup system for the hydraulic system was fitted which sounds interesting. Would love to see photos of all of that kit! The tribute cars had none of the above with the exception of the FHP kit and the seats, harnesses and cage were just normal Scaglietti options. Looking at the UK RHD car coming up for sale at Silverstone, it does not appear to have the alcantara wheel and it has a dedication plaque on the dashboard. Compare this to the LHD car which has the Alcantara wheel and a different dedication plaque below the gear stick which is yet another curious difference between LHD and RHD. My view is that these 'WSR tribute' cars have a certain appeal and who's to say that they shouldn't command a premium of some sort. After all, cars originally owned by 'celebrities' such as Eric Clapton or Rod Stewart are often promoted as such! The downside on the WSR is that the car is arguably less 'usable' than standard 550 as the FHP kit (not terribly sought after) shifts the balance away from the classic GT set-up and although the light weight, carbon backed seats are attractive and offer additional lateral support, (do they come in three widths?) the absence of inertia-reel seat belts means that the 4-point harness could become a source of frustration in every day use. The racing seats were available with three point harnesses and that is the only way they came here in the US. Probably not too difficult to save the 4 point harnesses for originality and fit the inertia reels and 3 point belts for daily driving.

Looks like ZFFZR49B000117415 73,000kms - asking €198,000.- Possibly the only one produced in Giallo Modena but that interior looks like Grigio Scuro (Dark Gray) 4302 to me as opposed to Nero. Auto usata FERRARI 550 Maranello _ Word Speed record _ del 1999 - Tieffe srl, Bologna Apparently comes with Ferrari Classiche Certification which was supposedly reserved for 20+yr old cars unless considered special editions (such as the Barchetta and Superamerica). Perhaps this means that the factory truly consider the WSR as a special edition, but alternatively, they might do it for any car if one is prepared to pay the going rate. P.S. According to the parts list, these seats were available two (NARROW and LARGE) sizes. Image Unavailable, Please Login
