    Hello Folks,

So, when we started providing refinishing we also created our own HVAC overlays for the 355 model because we wanted a more accurate overlay and one that had proper graphics, fonts and texture to match our coatings.

Until we created our overlay, only one other option was on the market and while it was decent, the fonts, graphics and other attributes just were not up to our standards.

We released our 355 overlays approx 1.5 years ago. And, while they are correct in graphics, we still were not happy with the ultimate finish which is a function of the technology used to produce these:

Graphic overlays are silk screened on plastic sheet material from the back side. It's very hard to get a piece of plastic to match a painted finish.

So, we recently created the art work for 550 HVAC overlays and had some discussions with our vendor that produces these. They proposed a material that is a much closer match to our coatings and the answer is a soft touch material.

We really did not want a soft touch but that was the only option and method to get a finish as close to our coatings as possible.

We are very pleased with the results and will be posting better photos to come and will get these on our website soon.

Our vendor has used this material for fork truck panels and they have been in the field for many years with no failure of the soft touch coating. However, we will provide a 5 year warranty on these for bubbling or getting sticky which we don't anticipate being an issue.

I've posted a photo of our current 355 overlay for comparison. These will be also offered in the soft touch material within a few weeks. :)

Good going, I knew you'd get it right. is this a DIY or do we have to send you the panel. I already have the other one, it should just peel off I suspect.

    Thank you, Terry

Hi Dave - it will be both.

We will offer the overlays alone on our online store - hopefully we will get them listed next week. We do have Fahrenheit and Celsius versions in stock.

We will also offer this as a turn key service (as shown in this photo) as we refinish the dials, the white dial indicators (so they illuminate at night), the 2 buttons (laser etched graphics) and the perimeter of the panel.

Yes, the other aftermarket overlay will peel off and rubbing alcohol can remove the glue residue but it may remove the perimeter paint depending on how it was painted (alcohol won't remove our paint)

    :)

When you get the silver color right, may I suggest that you offer refinishing of other parts? i.e. the center console metal and ashtray door, and the switch mounts.

Chris, we refinish many non black parts. Take a look at threads in the 599, 612 and California section. We can have the color matched EXACTLY. Shoot me an email if you wish to discuss.

    Thank you.

I'll take a look and see what's scratched.

I'm never going to get this car back together...

I think I recognize that nasty 550 HVAC panel, Dave! LOL You all can see why I sent it to the expert. You couldn't touch any of the soft touch parts in the car without getting the black goop stuck to your fingers and clothes...switches, ashtray, steering column surround...horrible! Looking forward to getting those beautifully refinished parts back so I can actually sit in the car without fear of being gooped! BTW, a plug for Dave's other tools...the (355) spark plug boot puller worked perfectly to pull my firmly stuck yet irreplaceable Ferrari logo'ed plug boots without damage when I went to rebuild the wire sets, and his wheel mounting guide pins are a must-have for easy wheel swaps. Well made, nicely finished, and the price is right!
