After the car overheated due to a hose blowout, I decided, since the car has over 30K miles now, to rebuild the top end, and replace the motor mounts, along with rebuilding the thermo-regulator and replacing all the hoses. It's been weeks, but the motor is coming back together.

    Looks awesome.

    Cheers,

George, did you do this because you suspected bad guides in the heads, and was that confirmed? If so, what type of guides & stem seals did you replace them with?

Be sure & pressure test the block (cooling passages) before putting it back in the car - could save you a lot of grief in case things aren't sealing the way they should.

    Who's doing the work?

I decided to replace the guides regardless, and I haven't talked to them about it yet, but they have a bin of the old parts for me to look at.

Jim Smalley of Ferrari of San Antonio is doing the work. I think he's the only Ferrari Certified Master Mechanic in Texas. He's done ALL the work on my car since I bought it. He loves my car. Says it's the nicest 456M with an automatic he's ever seen, and the only Rosso Corsa one he's ever worked on. I'm sure he knows about pressure testing the block. Just look at how clean he's gotten it!

    Cheers,

Silicone hoses should be used throughout,
    especially under the intake manifold.

    Add best-quality hose clamps.

This might be a good time to get that
intake setup powder coated to look more attractive.

A little "Ferrari Red" under the hood adds a lot !.

Have done that with all my 456 cars.

It's an unmolested car, so I'm not going to do anything that would get it any dings in a concours show. It's almost always in the top three at shows, and I've only been shut out once.

    Cheers,

    George

Seems like a reasonable price for the work being performed.

Sure is pretty. I look forward to your thoughts on how she drives after versus before.
