Interior looks really nice with the right amount of Bordeaux. The ones with red steering wheels and red dash can look a bit over the top to me.
Hi, I can not disagree! Mine's the same. Except no airbag. That Red Connolly looks much better in real life than in any photos, a rich and classy tone. Vienna plates, mine will carry the Frankfurt plates at least this year. Within two weeks I should get to drive her through Germany, Denmark and Sweden! Enjoy your new old car!
Congrats on your new purchase. I bought my 1999 456 MGTA Black/Black ten years ago and am reliving sharing the joy of your new purchase. It had 16,700 miles when I bought it and now has approx. 22,000 miles. Yes, unfortunately, its more a garage queen. Last weekend when I was going to the smog inspection for my biennial inspection, several people heard me pull into the shop so they started asking me about the car. They couldn't believe it was almost twenty years old. I then too looked at it with a fresh set of eyes as the smog man was doing the inspection. Staring at the car, I appreciated the timelessness of the design and noted a few observations. With the folding massive front lights, you can't see the design and shape of the headlights so you cant tell if its got old or new headlights. (Headlight design often tends to date a car). The front end is not overly complicated so it gives it a nice clean appearance again not dating the grill aspect. The sides of the car have simple lines with the door handle recessed into the body again not giving and indications of age. The side grills next to the front tires which vent the front brakes are not overstated but you can tell its a sports car design. Then finally the back end is again simple but beautiful with nothing sticking out of the car other than the prancing horse and the dual exhausts. Simply said, I think even another ten years from now the design and shape of this car will be timeless. It will not look like a thirty year old car. Again congrats on your purchase. You're new purchase has rekindled my love of this car. Yes I passed smog with flying colors and want to thank Joe from Concourse Automotive in La Habra for keeping my car running all these years. All the best.. By the way below are my comments from August 2007 after taking possession of my 456. On July 8th, I posted a thread "Buying a 456 for the first time." in which I mentioned that I was looking to purchase a 456. I ended up with a 1999 GTA M with 16,700 miles black on black with FX performance exhaust. I was lucky enough to find the car I liked here in the southern california area. The car is truly amazing and I now have a greater appreciation for Italians in general. A friend of mine told me not to turn the radio/cd player on in the car so that I could enjoy the "crescendo" of the exhaust and engine. I now understand what he meant. I want to take this opportunity to thank the 40 or so ferrari chat members that gave me advise and input. Thanks especially to DONV, SonomaRik, 45Six, AndyE, Ross, and GTB4NART (I hope I didn't miss anyone) for taking time to answer my questions with great detail. I don't know who all of you are but maybe our paths will cross. In my opinion, the 456 is timeless in both fit and finish on the interior and exterior. I absolutely love the car and would recommend to anyone looking at buying a comfortable exotic sports car that can fit more than two people. Thanks again ferrari chat members. See you all on the roads.
Magic car, I like the early cars looks over the M's. You can fit the 360 steering wheel to the 456, like Mark McCracken did to his 355 in post 247 of this thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/443507-decided-give-my-f355-berlinetta-some-tlc-13.html I wonder though if it would be possible to replicate the early 355 / 456 wheel using the 360 airbag wheel as a base, which I think you can install in the 456. The airbag is not huge on the 360 wheel. I think I remember reading the 550 airbag wheel fits the 456 too, not sure though.
Better to fit a 575M wheel, which is the same basic wheel as the 360, with the same airbag, but separate horn buttons on the wheel rims. If it fits. Mine, not quite stock any more, thanks to MAcarbon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
