    hi all,

ive ordered my ferrari 458. i like the colour giallo triplo strato which is the pearl metallic yellow, however i dont like the price tag of £11k especially when my plan is too keep it until my 458 spider arrives.

so what i was thinking was to order a red one and then get it wrapped in pearl yellow. atleast this way when it comes time to sell i can take the wrap off and have a popular colour to sell.

i have a specialist wrapping company who can make any colour. can anyone help me on the paint code for the giallo triplo stratto? as they will need this.

    what are peoples opinions?

The triple yellow is on a car that you see when you go to the Ferrari museum in Modena. Absolutely stunning. I think in other posts I have seen the potential downside is getting scratches and dings repaired. The body shop might not be able to match the original paint easily. I don't think there is anyway you will be able to match the effect with a wrap and you just might end up with a great car that looks a bit naff!!.

Here are some poor iphone pics I took of the one at the museum in Modena:

i dont think they will be able to match it 100% exact but i dont think it will be far off as my friend got his lamborgini wrapped in pearl white and it looked very similar to lamborginis balloon white (pearl white). im going to get a sample of pearl yellow from my ferrari dealership and then ask the guys who make the wrap to match and im going to see how simillar they are.

Yes they do look a bit that way - but I think that's more the lighting and the iphone! If you look part way down this thread:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=251923&page=52

You will see the yellow I'm talking about - just much better quality pictures than mine. I think it looks great in that colour although, I've seen a couple of pictures of it in silver which I really like and also silver with a black top.

its someone messing with photoshop to make there photo look cooler. that is not a true representation of the color.

In my opinion at least... look at how bright and high the sun is... and then look how everything is so dark around it... when has it ever looked like that outside? Especially when the cars are clearly not parked in the shade.

Yes it is an amazing colour, do you think I can achieve this colour in a wrap?

I had no idea anyone can duplicate paint using vinyl wrap. We use graphic vinyl wraps on our commercial vehicles in our business but they don't have the shine and the depth that a good paint job has, so I'm guessing that they've come a long way with the process if you've seen it on a Lambo in pearl white and it looks like real paint. I can tell you that I saw an Aston-Martin V8 Vantage at my Bentley dealer's showroom in pearlescent yellow and the paint was absolutely incredible! I've only seen photos of the 458 in that Giallo, but it looked exactly like the Vantage's paint, so if you can get a wrap to look like it, I'd say go for it! Send pics!

Wrapping basically means covering the car in a coloured plastic....

As Ive just learned! Amazing! I think it's an awesome idea. You get to indulge your creative impulses for maybe $3500 and when you go to trade in your car, not only is it "Resale Red", but the paint is perfect and doesn't even show any signs of wear because it has barely seen the light of day for a couple of years. Brilliant!

well im waiting for my dealer to send me the sample of pearl yellow i will then send it to wrapping company and see how good they can duplicate.... if they can then im going for a pearl yellow 458, with a black roof and black wheels and yellow callipers. i think this should look very cool. i just hope they can do it, i know they can do pearl white but whether they can do pearl yellow is another... i dont know

What's the interior going to look like if you're going to order a red exterior and wrap it in yellow? If you pipe the seats in yellow and use yellow contrast stitching against Nero leather, won't that limit the resale value?

good point spiderman!!! i think ill have to re-think my strategy. might just go for nero exterior and nero interior with yellow stiching. nero and rosso are both safe resale colours

To me the idea sounds like a lot of faffing around. OP will already have a wait on his hands, then has to wait longer to get the wrap done- which won't look as good as a real pearl yellow. Get the color you want and enjoy it.

Having had 2 triple coat pearl Lambos, I love the look but it does have limitations - it can't be touched up invisibly and and even the smallest paint repair usually requires adjoining panels to be repainted too as the pearl coat is never identical.

if that fails... go to a local high end respected body shop and they can mix it for you with a color code and they will do a spray out for you. Yes it will cost you a little bit... but it will be well worth it

Good idea! You'll get it in a few days and it won't cost you all that much. I just question the process of applying it since it seems to be a three-layer process, judging by the name. Good luck!

If you want a yellow car, order a yellow car. Nobody is going to match that paint with a wrap. Many owners love yellow and I am one of them. My perfect new car is yellow with a cuoio interior. Never buy a Ferrari for resale. Buy it for what you want. How many new Ferraris are you ever going to order, unless you are lucky and rich? If you are lucky and rich, why worry about resale? If you plan to flip and make a profit, those days are over.

Had a yellow Daytona once. Giallo Fly, not the paint job you are contemplating.

Completely agree with Terry. You're ordering your dream car and then wrapping it in plastic? Doesn't make much sense to me. I have seen that new colour in the flesh a couple of times and you can NOT match it using a wrap. Even if you could, you can always see wraps for what they are when the car is stationary. If this is really a deal breaker, order the car in a different colour - the 458 looks stunning in more colours than most Ferraris. Or leave off some options.

I'd consider a matte black roof using a wrap as it would not cost nearly as much as a factory painted roof and isn't as permanent or as limiting for resale. Wrapping the entire car - eh. I'd have to see one up close and personal before I'd even consider it.
