As I mentioned in my previous posts, I hace my 458 in Colombia where there is no official Ferrari Service place. Last saturday I took the car for a drive. Not far from home the car seemed to go into neutral and didnt move again. I thought at first that the gearbox was jammed, went over the manual and did all described procedures. However, the car does shift, it goes into 1st, N, and R. But wont move. As if the clutch wouldn´t engage. Any thoughts??
My experience is that if no one responds, that means that it is a very unusual problem. Some early 458s had transmission problems and some were replaced. But the problems were usually either only odd numbered or even numbered gears working.
Ignacio, Please give some basic info: Car year, miles, signs of problems to come before losing gears ? any previous service and by whom since no dealer around you ??
The car has 10,000KM. Its 2011 and I got it June 2011. The car has had no previous service yet. Was about to recieve its first. When it died it was driving normally. 2 turns before it went mad when a floored it in a turn, it seemed like the traction control went in and cut the power. It seemed weird to me because the manettino was in race mode, but still it was a VERY slippery road, a lot of dirt on it.
If it were me, I'd call the dealer or importer and get their service manager's suggestion first. They have a lot more ability to trouble shoot it than we do here. They can at least talk directly to the factory. Being in Columbia, it must be difficult to take care of a machine like this. I admire your enthusiasm to take on such a challenge.
Thats what I am trying to do. But from experience I have had a lot better answers from you guys. I have a feeling that it has to do with the DCT oil levels. However, the manual says it should be performed by a dealer and there are no instructions. Anybody know how to perform this task. I have everythign needed (tools wise) to dismantle a car in my house.
I have to laugh at the picture you created in my mind. When you say you have "everything you need" to repair the car, I imagine myself being shown instruments and asked to do brain surgery. I truly believe my car shudders at the thought of me "fixing" it. Good luck. Best
Come on!! Bogotano.... You've got to be smarter than this !!!!! You live in a large sophisticated city with plenty of Ferraris around. Find out who's the best mechanic that is trusted by the group who ownes these cars in Bogotá. Unless you live under a rock, you know such a place and individuals DO exist in your town !!! BTW, please take a picture of your garage (and the car too) and show us why you have become this confident "do yourselfer".
The transmission is a plug and play replacement part. Not even the dealers are fixing them. It's not worth fixing.
That's not completely true. There's very little that can be done internally. However, I have seen them replace electrical components and cables which seems to be what is causing most of the problems. There are some things that they do work on but with the gearbox and engine out of the car. I've seen it myself.
Hehe, I wish it would all be as simple. There are only 7 Ferraris around. And we all are in the same deal. The reason why I ask for assistance here is because, since all inquiries have to go to the Venezuela or Panama official dealers and back, it takes some time. And the time the car is broken is time I am not driving it. I posted some pictures of my garage in the garage pics forum a while ago. Check em out. Just added a BMW 1 series M coupe. Just an AMAZING car.
I am having a big problem with my 458 italia, only when it is hot only the odd gears work and the even gears stop working I can not find any solution why this is happening
Your car needs servicing and adjustments made and you need the factory diagnostic computer or leonardo..... Good luck...
Well this happened to me in my 2011 SLS which has the exact same trans as the 458. Stopped at a stop light when I lifted my foot off the brake and then only the accelerator, the car refused to go into first, then engine went to 4 cylinder, automatically went into neutral. Then I restarted the car and eased it to the service station. Apparently it was a problem with the trans part of the ecu and it simply needed to be reprogrammed. Till this day I do not know how a transmission could turn a 6.2 v8 into a v4. Good luck I hope it's not major
Having problems when the box is warmed up is a sign that the DCT is having internal electrical problems
Troll alert. This and another old thread about problems with a Ferrari were reopened by a person with 4 total posts. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's what you think we live with it and yet love our 'overpriced' vehicles. You should try it and you might love it too!
Here's two interesting reads regarding the DCT. This one's too big to attach. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/5683/1/Olivi_Davide_tesi.pdf And the second. Image Unavailable, Please Login
