I put my car on the race scales over the weekend………………… it's quite the Porker I'm afraid
    :(

I weigh all cars with full fuel tanks, full washer bottle and all tools and books on board. I then deduct the weight of the fuel and the washer fluid and this gives the "Claimed kerb weight" that Ferrari quotes with some leeway for options specification. Ferrari understandably chooses the optimum specification for low weight and performance i.e Max carbon fibre body work options, no radio, no leather, no lifter, no climate glass, no active xenon lights etc, etc. By way of example, my Scuderia in standard (stripper spec) weighed 1360kg against Ferraris claimed weight of 1350kg. The difference being carbon fibre sills, rear diffuser, front splitter and engine cover. When I fitted those the Scuderia weighed bang on Ferraris claimed weight of 1350kg.

So what did the Speciale weigh?

Ferrari claim 1395kg which seemed pretty light to me given the DCT box weighs about 30kg more than the old single clutch technology and the Speciale is a much larger car than the old 430 Scuderia. Surely the difference between Speciale and Scuderia was more than 45kg?

My car weighed a surprisingly porky 1511 kg with fluids which equates to 1446 kg sans fuel and washer fluid. This is a massive 96 kg more than my standard Scuderia and 51 kg more than Ferraris claimed weight.
So where the hell is that 51kg ?? My car is essentially a "stripper spec" as it has very few options that would add weight. The only options it has that add weight would be the climate windscreen glass and active xenon lights. I would be surprised if that added more than 5kg. The only options I could have chosen to reduce weight would have been carbon fibre side sills, rear diffuser, front spoiler and rear diffuser. A saving of at the most 10kg. So that's circa 15kg accounted for……….where the hell is the remaining 36kg ?????

No extinguisher and it's even got a gel battery fitted as standard.

This is the specification I ordered :

Colour/Trim as applicable- Giallo Modena with Nero Alcantara

    Genuine FERRARI fitted options
    CALY Brake Calipers Yellow
PAR2 Front & Rear Park Sensors
    AFS1 Adaptive Light System
    ALWA Alcantara Inner wheel arc
    CTUA Alcantara upper tunnel
    RIFS Sport Painted Dark Rims
    LOGO Scuderia Ferrari Shields
    RPMY Yellow REV Counter
    RSFT Driver Seat Adjust Device
    HAW1Heat insulating windscreen
    PAC1 Rear Parking Camera
    MIR2 Elec Int & Ext R/V Mirror
    Special Items- Production album
    - Alcantara central dash in place of tech fabric

In addition I fitted the carbon fibre engine bay panels, side fins and aero outlets next to the headlights.

So as I said, pretty much a stripper spec. car

I actually weighed it with the mats out of the car. The mats weigh just under 1.5kg BTW.
The 3D fabric should be a similar weight to Alcantara which in itself is half the weight of leather.

Fluids? Engine oil, gearbox fluid, coolant? (the ultimate "dry" weight?)

Must have been calculated on the Italian math system (just-a lie).

Love your Speciale though, stunning colour combos!

Full carbon fiber side fins could reduce a few kilos.
Alcantara on the trunk maybe? (Extracampionario)
By the way your speciale looks great!

It's not "dry weight" which is sans ALL fluids. Ferrari claims 1290 kg for that.

I have weighed 3 different Ferrari models using the method described and then deducting the weight of fuel and washer fluid. In each case it was very close to Ferraris "claimed" weight for the model so it's proven fairly reliable.

I specced one like it on the configurator a couple of weeks ago...from what I can see the only thing that is different is that I didn't have the 'slats' next to the lights in carbon!

    :D

The side fins are quite small and the difference between standard plastic and carbon fibre is negligible….in the order of a few hundred grams each.
The complete side sills themselves are surprisingly heavy and the difference between standard and carbon fibre is around 1 kg per side.

There is 1 kg saving in the carbon fibre engine panels as well.

If you specified every exterior carbon fibre option you would save around 10kg judging by my experience with my Scuderia.

Save yourself a fortune and buy all the carbon fibre stuff from Capristo. It's identical and goes for about 1/3 rd the OEM Ferrari price :)

These are the Capristo engine bay panels.

If your 458S is porker, I can't imagine what my 458 that is highly optioned must weigh.....full leather, lifting system, carbon interior, radio, Daytona seats. Mine would be called a tank compared to your 458S;). Beautiful 458S you have! Congrats.

I reckon you could add at least 50kg of options from the list which is why I don't blame Ferrari for carefully specifying the press test cars.

Most Italia's are in the 1600 Kg area wt. wise. Add 50 Kg for 458 Spiders. Furthermore, most F12's are in the 1825 - 1850 Kg range. These are Kerb wt's (FULL GAS TANK AND FLUIDS) for USA cars.

The yellow car weighed in this thread has alcantera options in place of tech fabric (more wt.), plus electrical equipment such as sensors, lights, etc which add a little wt (likely 10 Kg in total).

Figure the lowest wt. Speciale's are in the 1490 - 1500 Kg range all in - still a lot lighter than all other current Ferrari models - except the racing cars.

:) Very nice and a helpful tip for the future :D.

Looking at your interior, I specced ''mine'' identical inside and out minus the aforementioned slats. Even the yellow wheel caps you (luckily) kept! Good taste ;).

I've always said the Speciale was just a marketing gimmick from the get go. It's always like this with these corporations. First the challenge stradale comes out as the authentic hardcore version, response is excellent by the consumer so next run it's overproduced Scuderia which still had some edge to it, and now Speciale which is designed to give you the feeling...

I know German manufacturers declaring 80/90 kg less for their new models and I know by reading American Forums.. that this is just another lie ..German math system?(Bmw m4 is just last example..)
