I need to pickup a daily driver to complement my 458 and wanted to see what suggestions you guys had. I'm thinking of a bigger sedan that is moderately sporty. Don't need an SUV (my wife has a Cayenne). Don't want to spend a ton of money and am fine with something pre-owned and depreciated.

Ideally I'm thinking about the $30K range and am kicking around these ones below that are in that price range but would really like to get some thoughts or some others that I've missed:

    - 2009 BMW 750i (newer body style, short wheel base, maybe stretch into the M-Sport variant)
    - 2007/2008 BMW Alpina B7 (older body style but extra muscle/speed)
    - 2007 Maserati Quattroporte

I don't love the S-Classes of that era or Mercedes in general. Other ideas: Audi S8 / S6?

I secretly want a Bentley Arnage (2001/2002 are in that price range) but my wife will never go for it (too showy).

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Get a BMW E60 M5. Epic car and a really nice V10 sound!

Judging by the choices I'm guessing reliability isn't a factor?

I guess reliability is a highly relative term.

I thought about getting an early '90's Jeep Grand Wagoneer (which I always wanted) but realized it may not be that reliable (and a fully sorted/restored one are more than my budget).

I would deem a 2008-2009 BMW to be fairly reliable. Maserati or Bentley, probably not so much.

Won't work as it must have a large backseat (for occasional errands, baby/kid shuttling or dogs).

I ordered a 2015 GT3 to complement my 458. I will use Gt3 as DD and track car and keep tracking on 458 to a minimum.

All your options are great, but I would go for the S8 or 7 from a build quality and performance perspective. I drive one (7 series) on a daily basis and I have nothing but praise for it. Depending on desired options you will find tech features galore alvailable. I have a fully spec'd sport version and can tell you most of the optional features although nice are not needed.

Not a fan of that period 5 and 7 series BMW. Both Audi's are very nice cars. Just to be a bit different, have you considered the Merc CLS?
If it has to be from your list, I'd go with which Audi suits you best. It's been awhile since we sold our Audi S6 4F, but I thought that rear passenger space was huge for the size of car. It did come with the price of the boot not being quite as large as a Merc E or BMW 5. But the wife and I could easily carry everything needed for an extended 4 day weekend trip of scuba diving in that boot. It was a very nice car, and we didn't encounter any issues in the 3 years we had it.

The only car from that list, that won't be a disappointment to drive after the 458, is the Maser.

E60 M5 if you don't mind the maintenance headaches or, and they weigh about the same with 100hp less, an E39 M5.

On this forum, the income variability of the members vary widely. So, a Porsche 991 TT as a DD and a Bentley Arnage for dinner dates along with someone's 458 are sadly commonplace.
As I am plebeian by comparison - wife has ML that is being changed to X5- my DD is a GTi. Just put a deposit down for my VW dealer's first Golf R. For under 40K you get performance equalling cars many times the price. It is not the same as the high priced German sedans in terms of cache, but I'll take new with warranty and great value any day. Plus if you look at interior dimensions, it is as big or bigger inside then many outwardly bigger cars. My 2 dogs have no problem in there. One weighs 75lbs.

Yes, all true and great feedback.

I love the handling of the GTI, but I was concerned about how much space was in the rear as I have not driven one in a really long time. I also need to get up to speed to learn about the Golf R as I don't follow VW as much. Thanks for the tips, will definitely look into it.

We have an Audi S4 with MT and love it. Will replace our Outback turbo MT with a 450 bhp Audi RS5 V8 DCT on order to arrive Nov-Dec 2014. Wanted something different from the S4...otherwise would have been happy with an S5.

If you can find a car that is REALLY fun to drive and reliable for $30k, please let me know. I need AWD.

Unless you need a big car, at 30k some version of a 3 series BMW with a manual Trans would be hard to beat.

30 to 40k will buy you a nice 997 Porsche. I dd one for 60k+ miles and was a blast everyday. If you dont need the space of a 4 doors, the 911 is perfect for DD duty.

What about the new Maserati Ghibli? They have been running some lease deals recently at around $600-ish/mo. For that price and full warranty, it might be a nice contrast to the 458 and with a Ferrari engine no less. Not as good looking as the Granturismo, but for the price might be fun to own for a few years as a DD and then just return it and get something else.
