is it better to wait until end of the year to buy one? will the price go down due to the release of the 488?

I'd say that launching 488 gtb
Will pose a significant impact on 458 italia prices

    But not that sure

I would wait until the first deliveries of 488 are up and everyone runs to the dealerships to beg for an allocation and trade in the 458 unless you found the perfect car

Id say get the car now and enjoy it bro life is too short. Youd have to wait 10 months to see the price drop upon deliveries of the 488, I woldnt wait that long lol

The best time to buy is probably right now. I don't think you will see a price drop because of the new model until they start to be delivered. So now at the end of winter the deals are out there to be had. Once spring gets here prices will creep up.

The new 488 GTB is expected to be as expensive as 458 Speciale. Pre-owned 458 will become bargain at that time, so who knows how much 458 price will go down.

Based on decay's for prior models, and price increases for new introductions, I can see 458 prices stabilizing around $180k for '10/11 at the lowest end.

Who would buy the new Audi R8 at $200k before a used 458?!!!

Tried to interest my wife into trading the 2011 Porsche Boxster S on a new R8 Spyder. She said: you are kidding right.

    That means no!

I think prices will continue to go down as one has mentioned until Spring comes, then they will flatten out.

I could see a further drop over the next few months, but I'd guess they'll level out after that.

I think for the coups the 458 prices will fall between 175 to 200as the average low... And for a spider I think the will bottom out at 210 to 250... Of course if the car is storied or high mileage or off color It will fall bellow those parameters

Just to give everyone a reality check, my 2011 458 has been for sale at $209k for 3 months without a single bite. The car is loaded, has 8000 miles, and has a 5 year extended factory warranty. It's a gorgeous color, Grigio Silverstone with Cuoio interior.

It has 2 carfaxes, which is unfortunate. I learned my lesson. Next time I'll fix it out of pocket instead involving my insurance. Cars never been in an accident. Never even had a door chip.

    Sad state of affairs.

That's why I have a $2000 deductible. Anything up to that I will pay out of pocket to keep off carfax.

Yep, between car fax, car color and high miles, unfortunately I guess I'm not surprised. Good luck with sale and hope it will bring over $200.

For OP, over the next few months you will see market for 458 soften even further. If you can get a good deal now and don't want to wait, do it. I mean it's a 458 and you will get to enjoy it. However, if you can even wait another 90 days you will see some pretty amazing deals. Good luck in your hunt and buy a popular color if you want to sell it quickly.

Look at 360 to 430 change over impact on price for a guide. Yes - 458 will continue to drift down but it won't plummet. It is after all an excellent and still very modem super car that's going out at the top of its game. One word of caution - super cars of all sorts are being pumped out at a higher production rate than ever before. At some point the market will pick the depreciation winners and losers, when it does, you can be very confident knowing that Ferrari won't be on the losing end of that bet.

This is very true. However, all makes are being affected. Once 488 starts to be over produced (which it will as Ferrari will be public and have to hit revenue numbers for share holders) you will further see the 458 fall. HOWEVER, all in all it's certainly a 'safer' bet--BUT could be an expensive one. But like anything in life, you have to be willing to take a gamble if you want to play in the world of exotics.

The first CarFax was for the repair of the roof due to bird poo that etched into the paint. I had Dave from Premier fix it better than new for $10,000. He even replaces the front windshield as part of the repair. No ones work is as perfect as Daves.

The second car fax was when I ran over a rock on a canyon drive. It ended up damaging some of the under cladding from front to back. Ferrari Auto Gallery suggested replacing all of it to make the car perfect, so they unbolted 7 pieces and bolted 7 pieces back on for another $10,000.

Both of these repairs made the car as good or better than new, but just doesn't make any difference. I could have repaired the roof for $1000 and replaces a couple of the plastic pieces underneath that were damaged badly and never called my insurance. The buyer would have got a car that's not nearly as nice as it is now, and I would be able to pull an extra $30k for my car. Doesn't seem right, but it is what it is.

Also amazing that a 4 year old car with extended warranty and 8000 miles is considered high mileage.

Incidently, if the car doesn't sell by the end of March, I'll take it back and hold for a couple of years.

Exactly. Talk to Lambo, Turbo S or Mercedes SLS owners about depreciation.
