Intermittent issue, and can't seem to find a pattern that triggers it, or relieves it. Go to turn car off and it remains in Neutral so can't remove the key. Fiddle with turning back on and off again until it registers Park, then I can turn all the way off and remove key. Pushing "auto" or playing with the paddles doesn't seem to help. Anyone have a similar problem? Fix? Many thanks.
Have you tried pulling the E brake then removing the key. I leave mine in gear when turning the car off. I have had to fiddle with the steering wheel before to remove the key. If that fails ask Ben because I'm sure he's RTFM.
Whether in first gear or reverse, just turn the key to off. No need to put in neutral or pull electronic parking brake.
When you try to turn it off while in neutral, the car will go into car wash mode (also displayed on the screen). To remove the key, you have to press the small button directly behind the key while rotating the key. The proper way to put it into park is simply turning off the ignition while in 1st gear or reverse - the key will remove without a problem.
Perhaps I didn't make myself clear...I'm not putting it in Neutral. I come to a stop with my foot on the brake, and turn the key to the off position. Just like we all do in any car. 95% of the time it is fine. The displays shows a "P" and I can rotate the key all the way off and remove the key. Occasionally, however, the key won't rotate all the way and the display is showing "N," and then if I fiddle turning on and off it finally shows "P" and allows me to turn fully off and remove key..though it can take 3-4 attempts.
How about a test- come to the place you wish to park. While holding foot on the brake put the car into N. Then put it back into 1st. Then try turning the car off.
I always put mine into neutral before switching off. Come to a stop, pull both paddles and neutralize. Then switch off completely. Display will show "N". When I open the car door, it switches to park, displays "P" and I can remove key. Works every time.
Always leave the car in gear before shutting off.. also learn the Auto Park feature. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just a heads up. Remember that if you have to leave the key in the ignition for an extended period of time, the battery discharge level will be high -- enough to drain it in 24 hours. It has happened to me.
Hi Needed to resurrect this post. Italiafan did you ever manage to get the fault sorted ? Or find out the cause ?. My November 2013 Spider has started with the exact same fault. Sometimes all is ok when you switch car of and remove key car goes into park and P appears . Other times message on left hand screen "gearbox not in park" and car beeps and will not let me remove key. Have to restart the engine and than it seems to be Ok. Car is due a service on 6th September so might wait until then. Any Ideas ????????????
On a seperate note, are you sure it is not just a lubrication issue with the lock barrel, try a squirt of WD40 on the key before you insert it. They can get a bit dry and start binding. I used some de icer on an ignition key in the uk as it froze on a severe winter, but a few weeks later it was solid in warm weather, the de icer had removed any lub out of the barrel and the fix was a blast of WD40
Thanks Mike32 yes tried that. Car is under warranty until May 2018 so I am not to concerned its just really frustrating.
No solution...but for some reason it doesn't happen as frequently now. I consciously slow down my normal routine...I let car idle for a few seconds then slowly turn the key off and it doesn't seem to happen as much. The dealer had no answers, they just said take the key out by pushing the button behind the key, and the car will be in park/avh anyway....so every now and then I have to do that.
That's happened to me a few times also and just re-started like you did. Could not duplicate at dealer and has not really been much else of a problem. Cars: 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cab
Don't have a solution but this same thing has recently occurred in my Speciale. Never happened during my first year of ownership. Last several weeks has been back to working fine. Have always turned off engine in 1st gear, same with my Italia where it never happened.
Guess it cant be anything to worry about. Just had visions of a new gearbox and other never ending thoughts of what the problem could be.
My sense is that it has something to do with an electronic sensor identifying the key in the off position...I don't think it is related to the tranny specifically...though I can't be sure. My dealer didn't seem too concerned about it.
