So there have been a dozen threads about a new Dino 2. We all know about what a modern reincarnation of the Dino should be. V6 engine probably a twin turbo similar to the 488, and maybe longitudinally mounted rather than transverse. Beautiful curvy body work. Slotted somewhere below the 488. Maybe priced a little less than the Cali T even.

But Ferrari has been reluctant to do anything and perhaps this procrastination has been a self fulfilling prophecy.

    Why?

Well Acura is launching the new NSX. A longitudinally mounted twin turbo V6 hybrid which does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 190-mph something and a base price of $149,000.

I guess the boat everyone was hoping to bring us the Dino 2 has already set sail.

Are you actually saying the life of a new Ferrari gets tougher because of an Acura? Also, have you seen any reviews of the new NSX? Everyone hates it...

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the new NSX is extremely derivative. If you left off the identifying badges, it could be placed in an architect's rendering of a luxury condo project, as a generic "supercar." Fred

I have seen the new NSX at the Geneva car show.
    It is not impressive.
I heard many comments to that effect also.
    They missed their chance; badley.
    Anyway, who cares?

It sure is. Ferrari could do a lot worse than offering a new dino that looks like the original.

Not impressed with the NSX but there are lots of NSX fanboys out there that beg to differ

A lot of them are the Subaru and Mitsubishi crowd. Very few of those will be able to afford it

The other cars in the Dino 2 space and price range (150-199)
    MB AMG-GTS
    McLaren 570s
    Audi R 8
    Porsche Twin Turbo

But perhaps the reason we haven't seen a Dino 2 is that the mid engine compact Ferrari is alive and well in the 488?

Personally I hope they never build it. Building a cheap Ferrari is stupid both for the brand and exclusivity. Hell no.

A Dino was NOT a Ferrari. The new Dino better NOT BE a Ferrari!

I saw the NSX at the NY Auto Show. I was disappointed in the appearance, which struck me as generic rather than exotic.

The old NSX was a brilliant car. Many would argue that in its debut year it was better than much of its competition at the time, including the Ferrari 348.

The new car has had a troubled development, due to the Tsunami/ Earthquake in Japan. It's too little too late.

Agree completely, even if Ferrari is now publicly traded and may feel compelled to juice production numbers.

The new NSX makes one appreciate so much more the perfect design of the Ferrari 458 & 488. As my daughters would say, the NSX is "ick-nast". The new Dino 2 will just cheapen the Ferrari brand as Ghibli has cheapened the Maserati brand.

I am not sure Ferrari really wants to compete in that price range. When I seriously started looking at Ferrari to purchase the dealers left me with the impression that the entry level Ferrari was a second hand car. If that is truely their opinion why would they want to introduce a new Dino. And the origional Dino was not a Ferrari when they were new I looked at one and could not find one Prancing Horse.
I think MalibuGuy is spot on with his evaluation that nitch is already quite adaquately filled with the cars he listed. Why would Ferarri want to compete in an a difficult area at an entry level car? They have every thing to lose and not so much to win IMHO. I could be wrong.

I would not mind a small, V6 normally-aspirated, mid-engined new Dino in a beautiful body. Something along the lines of a 458 but smaller. In fact, I would buy one.

Both the Dino and 458 are PF designed. Do you trust the in-house team to replicate the PF Dino in the way you imagine? Big leap of faith IMHO. Every other attempt was harder edges and flaps/gills. Dino is smooth and sexy and all curves. Dare I say the reason it is so popular.

That's what they said in 1968. Did it cheapen the brand then?
