Did you know the 488 is fitted with the sound generator connected to the cabin ? Similar sytem like the Porsche 991 sound symposer See diagram part 30 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I wonder if Ferrari considered pumping fake engine sounds into the cabin like some manufacturers are doing? I never thought I'd use those words in the same sentence with "Ferrari"
Maybe I'm not understanding something? Is Ferrari "amplifying" the true sound and pumping it into the cabin? Or are they creating a false (improved) sound and pumping that into the cabin? Although i guess either way is somehow disappointing.
Man you guys just need test pipes and exhaust on the 488. It wakes up and sounds awesome!! plus it will destroy the 458 in the power department. I have really taken a liking to mine and I have had the Stadale, Scud etc....
would be surprised if the title of the part is what it seems - or whether there is a translation/meaning issue. If it is what it seems, Trofeo is right. But would be surprised.
Perhaps something along these lines? (McLaren's Intake Sound Generator): https://www.google.com/patents/US20130199487
@ to provide engine-generated sound pulses received at the sound receiving means into a vehicle cabin @ I hope this is NOT correct in our Ferrari 488 ...............
Odd that the pick-off point is after the turbines. If any of those hoses/clamps get loose you will be losing boost. I believe Ferrari has used this diaphragm sound generator on at least one other recent NA model.
Fake = Bad This applies to people, mammary glands, jewelry, journalism, currency, subzero interest rates, accounting, pharmaceuticals, etc etc.... If Ferrari has found it necessary to resort to fakery, the future is indeed dim. You can candy coat it by calling it "synthetic" or "generated" or "symposed" or whatever... All are just synonyms for "FAKE."
Yes, they are on the 12C/650s. Don't know about the 570s or 675LT, regardless mine was a spider with sport exhaust, I just turned it down as low as it would go, to me it sounded very fake. MB
I don't think it sounds better than stock 458, but I think the 488 sounds better being a driver than bystander. This is very typical the modern BMW M series and AMGs.
458/F12 4-ever !!! Or any other older Ferrari. The Magic might be slowly going away...in the name of improved margins...being a publically traded company now.
+458/F12!! Unfortunate indeed; the cheap little turbo V8 that originated in the Cali T has even made it's way into the Lusso
In this case, electric cars can actually have NA-F1 sound, both the acceleration and the downshifts. Imagine Tesla that sounds like Schumacher's F1 (from inside only).
What's wrong with amplifying the natural engine sound? It's not like BMW's fake sound through speakers!!!
So it's fine to alter to the point of presumably 'improving' the sound with aftermarket bits like exhausts but not for the manufacturer to tune the sound with components other than the exhaust? Especially when that tuning is for the benefit of the driver? It's not like there is no purpose to it - the more you feel engaged with the car the more fun you have, and that is everything in one of these, otherwise buy a GTR. This is not artificial sound, it is amplified sound for the driver's benefit. Seems like a strange reaction from Fchat to this.
