Good luck with the trade but I hate to break it to you that high spec Mclaren's don't mean squat. If you are realistic with your expectations I'm sure you can find a deal but maccas drop like a rock regardless of spec.

Sorry. Not trying to be harsh. My apologies if it came across that way. Just being realistic. There have been lots of discussions talking about depreciation here and Mclaren's don't do well.

To be honest high spec'd 458's are pretty much the same way. A lot of carbon, fancy radios, GPS, and special order paint don't mean much.

Its service history, mileage, condition, model year and color combo, not necessarily in that order.

Everything else won't get much in resale.

McLaren hasn't helped. It seems like they have introduced 20 different model cars since the 12c.

Don't listen to any negativity here, all you need to do is find someone who finds value in the trade. Good luck with it. You should post some pics and specs here for people to read.

I don't think you'll get a trade that is any more valuable than just selling and buying. Can't see what's the be gained by anyone from trading.

Thanks.. I'm 50/50 if I even want to trade but never hurts to see. I really think my car is unique and the best spec'ed 12c Ive personally seen. Car is also in warranty and was a certified car with full service records from day 1.

Hopefully its OK to post a link to to the car here on another forum. I posted a feeler here. (If not ok - just let me know and I'll remove the link)

My car I believe checks all those boxes. complete service history since day 1, excellent condition, relatively low miles 8k, color combo and options best I've seen + certified and still under warranty + MSO which is like an "individual spec from factory" / think Porsche paint to sample or BMW individual etc.

your probably right. but it never hurst to ask. only gain would be cutting the dealer out of the loss in trade in / repurchase. think of it as both parties getting a price closer to private party value than trade in value.

I don't follow. You sell your car privately and buy his privately. Why is there a dealer involved?

No just a direct trade with +/- for value difference ... my point being you save $ rather than doing a trade in for a lower value and rebuying another car.

Most states at the dealer you save the sales tax on the trade value registering the new car -- CA may be an exception -- but here you're talking $14k on a $200k car. I know dealers who will do the paperwork for a small fee that is dwarfed by the sales tax you would pay otherwise.

    This. With mileage coming last.

Carbon fiber steering wheel, carbon fiber racing seats and carbon fiber shift paddles really emphasize the interior's racing look. But it's very personal and subjective.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Yeah, I still don't get it. Aside from any potential sales tax savings from a dealer trade, what's the difference?

You sell your car to Person A privately.
You buy a car from Person B for $15K over what you sold for.

    or

You trade cars with Person B and give them $15K.

Seems the same to me. In both cases, you end up with the same car, get rid of your car, and you owe $15K in cash or whatever the balance may be.

Why do you feel the only choice is to trade to a dealer for less?

    $168k seems fair.

That's one of the nicest spec 12C's I've seen.

Good luck in your search for the 458 replacement. :)

It doesn't hurt to ask but I would just sell the 12C and then buy the exact 458 you want. Plenty for sale.
