Lots more billionaires are buying lots more supercars

According to serious motoring industry types JATO Dynamics and Automotive News Europe, the number of billionaires in the world has doubled between 2010 and 2017. As a result, supercars are very, very popular right now, and the most popular of all is: the Ferrari 488. So far, 622 have found homes in Europe this year, and the exotic car market as a whole is booming, with 2017 sales projected to near 13,000. By 2020, almost 15,000 of Europe’s annual car sales will be bona fide Instagram-pleasing supercars. It’s alright for some…

The 488 is a super car,but it is not a supercar.

I'm not sure what qualifies as a supercar anymore besides price. A 488 does the 1/4 a sliver under 3 sec. weighs in at 3250 lbs dry with 5500 lb.ft. of torque.and a top speed of close to 206 mph. I know that may not be considered that special these days but the car is faster than my previous 599 GTO which was considered one of the few only 6 years ago. So the only thing that seems to separate the men from the boys is more HP and you must spend at least 500K to be considered a "Supercar"

Had no idea it was THAT fast Holy Sh%&!!!! The fastest top fuel dragster can only do it in just over 3.7 secs... must be that 5500 ft/lbs of torque you mentioned

There are so few billionaires in the world that the "new" supercar buyers among them wouldn't add up to more than a handful of cars each. It's not like billionaires are suddenly buying 10s or 100s of cars each all of a sudden.

I think you are confusing 0-60 times and 1/4 mile tiles. 488 is fast, but nowhere near top fuel time fast in a drag race.

    It's a 'junior supercar'.

One really doesn't have to be a billionaire to buy a 488.
Being a mundane millionaire is good enough.

Well said! Us bottom feeders suffer such atrocities in our humdrum F12's and 488's.
Now if only we could afford to buy a "real" sports car! You know the chrome wrapped kind with air suspension.

Very phew cars seriously outshine any 458 or later model.
The fact that you can have a wonderful lightly used F12 for 180.000 € when a top spec Audi RS5 in full on youtube attire sets you back 130.000 € is insane.

And to your point, you certainly don't have to be a billionaire. In London the other day, I saw a young guy in an F12 apparently working as a lumberjack according to his full beard on a 21 year old, lumberjack shirt and caterpillar work boots. Surely he's working in foresting no?
PS, he had even painted the car in a color not to dissimilar to a caterpillar forklift to fully capture the theme.

Very good point... and with all the "creative financing" options these days, one doesn't even have to be a millionaire...

I know three billionaires, and interestingly, none of them has one bit of interest in cars...

The billionaire I know here in San Diego has over 40 cars, 5 houses here in San Diego alone, and 5 planes, no Ferrari's that I'm aware of.

I would not put the 488 into supercar class - Pagani, Koenegsegg, LaFerrari, P1. 918, Bugatti AM 777, and alike yes those all run over $1 large buck

In todays lexicon, the cars you mention are hypercars, the F12 is a supercar and the 488 is a nice car ;)
