    Official Press Release..

    PRESS RELEASE
    Date: September 24 2006
    Amsterdam

In the summer of 2006 Michiel van den Brink and Robert Koumans started the Vandenbrink Design company, located in the Netherlands.
The talented industrial designer Michiel van den Brink (28) is specialised in automotive design, with a unique modern interpretation of the DNA of classic automotive icons like Ferrari. Robert Koumans (44) is entrepreneur with a background in automotive and aerospace engineering, marketing and new media. Together they form a solid basis for establishing Vandenbrink Design as a high-end automotive and industrial design house.
The initial focus is on the realisation of the special sportscar designs which have been very well received by potential customers, especially the Vandenbrink GTO which was conceived as the 'Ferrari 599 GTO Mugello' concept study. Actual coachbuilding will be performed in cooperation with well-known Ferrari specialist and coachbuilder Hietbrink in the Netherlands.
Vandenbrink Design also offers her design talent and services to established and emerging car manufacturers and industrial product manufacturers.
The Vandenbrink Design company kicks off ambitious but with realism. However, the international interest in the GTO by sportscar enthusiasts and collectors exceeding expectations gives us hope that the GTO may be actually built. This would result in a dreamstart for the newborn Dutch automotive company Vandenbrink Design.

I LIKE it! Ferrari could have used some of those design details like the 250 GTO openinings.

    Beautiful!

Probably a bit too retro for Ferrari to do themselves.

I don't know... I'm torn... The vents on the front fender remind me of the new XK8. There are lines I love and lines I loathe, but I couldn't tell you which ones. I like the GTO openings and agree that they would be a cool feature on a 599.

I really like the design, from an outside prospective. As a GTO, I'm not so sure. Too much Spyker in the back. The front is perfect, up until the side vents. I would try more of an original GTO styling on those instead of modernizing. Grill looks huge. I'm not sure whether I like that or not yet. I love the design though. Overall, the intent is great and far superior to anything I could ever do. Unfortunately it just doesn't seem to hit the same buttons as the GTO does, or in better context, the P4/5 does for me.

I wish you the best of luck. I can not wait to see one of these in the metal. :)

I like it best as it is in the final picture, but to me looks more british (Jag or even MG) than Ferrari. As said before, perhaps it is a bit too retro. I´ve always applauded Ferrari not to lean much on the past, and limit themselves to details when refering to famous Ferrari´s of yesteryear. In that sense, I don´t have much interest in the Ford GT, which is in a visual sense nothing more then an updated GT40. Same goes for the Miura conceptcar and the orgininal 60´s/70´s sportscar.

I´m curious to see how it looks when it is an actual car.

I'm still working on the design.
This was the first sketch I made earlier this year.
We're looking at building one, possibly five.

I'm investigating whether to build this one on a 575M or a 599 GTB.

Based on the existing chassis of either the 575M or 599GTB. Also, from the press release above:

"Actual coachbuilding will be performed in cooperation with well-known Ferrari specialist and coachbuilder Hietbrink in the Netherlands."

On a sidenote, Michiel's project in conjuntion with Jims and Peters makes me very excited that the dawn of a coachbuilding revival is upon us. It also makes me excited that most of the people involved in these projects are fellow FChatters :D.

You have got to do it on a 599GTB, it's a much more advanced car in every way... you might save some money by using a 575, but to do something as special as this the "right way" you have to go all-out. I think it's safe to say that Jim went all-out with the P4/5 and the results are fantastic. Good Luck.

    It's not about money.
The choice is about choosing the best car to implement the design.
I've allready made my choice, but I'm not the only one to decide.

What might your choice be? ;)

Congratulations and good luck with your endeavours! I'm not there yet, but would love to one day commision a coach-built car in the vein of what you're doing.

    All the best!

I love this trend towards coachbuilt versions of the modern cars, it's a great revival of the past and it infuses character into the modern cars, which frankly they could use.

MM, please keep us posted on the developments and hopefully some later versions of the design.

    Wonderful news for Michiel, :)
In my humble oppinion "Ferrari" has always meant breathtakingly beautiful Italian design and style! This design however totally lacks the "Italian" touch......it looks a bit too boring in my eyes.......like something Mazda or Nissan would build in an attempt to make a new Supra-killer!! A new GTO, in my humble oppinion, would need more....much more traces of the glorious past!
Nothing wrong with this design at all, and I'm sure it would make an awesome Nissan or Mazda........just not a Ferrari!
