Its a "common" problem. The only fix I am aware of is to replace the entire cover and its mechanism. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Depending on the circumstance sometimes all that needs to be replaced is the damper on the side of the plate for radio. And yes you can buy it separately. If it doesn't fix it, than you do have to get the whole cover.

I had the same problem with my 2010 599 HGTE,
Usually, is due to a broken or missing teeth of the plastic wheel or gear mechanism that controls the open-close motion of the cover.
I was able to fix mine by changing the plastic wheel - gear mechanism.
I bought the "tiny" part from Ferrari of New England for $55.00 I believe.

    Good Luck,
    Muftah

Do you have a part number or something and a source for this? The price I was quoted from a dealer to repair this was astronomical.

Mine too. Was quoted 3 hours of labor to take apart and reassemble. I am not that savvy and Ricambi wants $2000.00 for a new carbon cover.

Same story for me, mechanism broken and door not closing properly - my dealer ordered "a very cheap part" that will be delivered on monday, and problem will be fixed. Conclusion, there is a way to fix the mechanism without changing the whole part.

    Jvecchi,
I just saw your post, It has been a while and couldn't find my old invoice.
Let me know if you still need the part number and description , I am sure I can get all the info from FONE.

    Best,

It's part number 261198. Any Ferrari dealer should be able to get it.

It seems worth buying one just to keep as a spare.

Many thanks, Mark and Muftah. Funny how a rather insignificant part of the car that when not working properly can cause you so much grief.

Yes, thank you. A dealer quoted me $900 for the dumper part. :(

Which part and how much labor were they quoting you? Seems too high.

    It was the dumper, installed.

I would say you got over quoted. Like someone was saying they got quoted 3 hours to take apart and reassemble. The part it self should be around ~$50, so in total (labor+part) you are looking at $500-$600.

I received my 599 back today. The radio cover is fixed. It turns out that the dumper had been replaced by the previous owner, but had been installed upside down.

Boy, do I hate bringing this up again but the radio cover on my 599 will not stay down after having it successfully repaired last fall. The dealer who did the work informs me that Ferrari now sells an "overhaul kit" and that my cover now requires that kit. Cost? $2100.00 for the kit and about $900.00 for the labor. Can anyone confirm this? And yeah, I know, is the cover that important? But is that really my only option? Thanks for caring.

What on earth do you get in a overhaul kit for a radio cover for $2100?
It would be cheaper to buy one of the new radio's from Ferrari ! Maybe that is why they are doing it?
