Looking for the front tire recomendation. It seems the MPSS 315/35/20 for the rear is the concensus. So my question for the front tires; 245/35/20, 255/35/20 or the 285/30/20? assuming the 599 body can handle the 285 fronts? I have the HGTE 20 inch rims. Thanks

245 is recommended size. 255 is what the F12 uses in conjunction with 315 rears. And NO WAY would I use the 285s. I have a 599 HGTE and run the stock tire sizes for now. I am going to have the MPSS put on my 612, and I'm going to use the F12 tire sizes. (255 fronts and 315 rears.

285 fronts won't work with the HGTE wheels and will give you lots of sidewall play and horizontal instability at speed. The GTO got wider wheels in front to accommodate that size.

Just read literature and says the 285's on my GTO have a wider wheel (than the 599GTB/HGTE). Specifically, the front wheel is 1.5 inches wider on the GTO's 285's and the rear wheels are .5 inch wider on the GTO's 315's. I leave it to others who have tried GTO size rubber on the HGTE as to whether this can theoretically be done. Seems to me that if Ferrari made the GTO front wheels 1.5 inches wider to fit the 285's there must be a darn good reason (tire flex/stability?).

You can answer many of those types of questions by looking at tirerack.com and the spec section for the MPSS. 285/30 20 tires' recommended minimum wheel width is 9.5", so that one is out for your 8.5" front wheels. The other two will fit 8.5" wheels, so just a personal choice of what you want. I usually lean towards OEM size if it is available, but those two are so close, makes no difference. 8.5" is the minimum wheel width recommended for the 255/35 20s, so that would give you one size larger front and rear, which should balance the handling.

The GTO's front wheels are 9.5" wide, so they can fit wider tires up there.

    For what it is worth…..

I just tried to put the MPSS on my 599 and was told that going with a 315 size on the rears was not ideal as it was not what the factory recommended and that it could disrupt the traction control system/ electronics in the car because the larger sized tires.

I went with the stock Pirelli size tires.

Has anyone experienced any issues with the MPSS larger tires on a 599?

Daniel- Whoever told you that was wrong (cleaned that up). The only thing the ABS/ASR/stability control system cares about is front to rear tire diameter differential. It could care less about an individual tire diameter. If the front to rear differential gets to be more than 4-5% different from OEM, then the ABS/ASR/stability control will get confused and cause problems.

305/35 20 tires are 28.41" in diameter, 315/35 20 tires are 28.68" in diameter. That is a difference of only 0.27" or 0.95%, so it will not affect ABS/ASR at all as long as OEM fronts or slightly larger fronts are used. Dozens of 599 owners, and a few 612 owners, are using 315/35 tires on the rear. Handling is unaffected. The worst that could happen is a tiny bit more understeer, which nobody except a real expert on a track could detect.
