So, I've heard about leaking shocks. When shocks are worn in the 456/550/575 it's customary to send them back to Bilstein for approx. $80 a pop. What is the scenario with the 599? Same process different cost? Brand new required? What is the cost we are approximating?
Sean- The 456, 456M, and 550 have Bilstein shocks. The 575M has bulletproof Mannesmann-Sachs shocks. Nobody is rebuilding the Magneride shocks right now, but Delta Vee is working on a rebuildable coil-over replacement set. Either way, you would be out ~five figures. Cheapest price for Magnerides is about $2K each.
Taz, In a recent thread on this subject, the consensus of those who have had the problem was that the Magnerides were $6k each with no viable options which caused quite a stir among many F-chatters. I don't have the problem (yet) but would like to know where they can be found for $2k. I haven't had the opportunity to discuss this with a dealer but curious what they'll tell me.
Allegedly, Eurospares claims to sell original shocks within reason: http://www.eurospares.co.uk/searchResult_one.asp?S=257058&TM=1&TMo=704&TA=1&TB=42007
Steve- Maranello Classic Parts has them for a little less than $2K each for the fronts. Did not check the rears. Plus shipping and customs. Customs is about 3.5% based on what I paid for wheels I imported recently.
