well, day 2 and you know i cant leave well enough alone.
I always wanted GTO rims on my fcars and almost bought a set last year, now i got them with the car, so let the funs begin!!

For many years i been playing fcar wheels in the 114 lug configuration, u can swap the different models around and i found them to be interesting and a lot of fun to be had in the looks, weight, and offset aggressiveness or lack of it.
With lots of help from members like Taz, i have a little experience besides knowing if they work, but i dont recommend this to others.

I already have a set of speciale rims which i put them on my 612, stradale, 458,....
so i immediately tried them on my GTO.
With simple math and 1.5 mm spacers in the front i made an evil looking car, the front and back stick out a little more which looks mean and i love it.

Most importantly, i learned that GTO rims are the lightest from ferrari, even the speciale rims is a tiny bit heavier about a kilo or so more, especially given their 0.5" narrower width. So the GTO rims are 2 kilos lighter per corner with them PSS tires, i heard Michelin makes the lightest tires.
All in all, a GTO or speciale wheel+tire weighs 22-24.5kilos per corner, which is light enough for me.

Since my speciale fronts are only 9" wide, i choose RE070 265/35/20s for the front which i love, but i might try to stick to stock 285/30s pss next time when it wears out, because i feel the stock system is more comfy than what i have in front now. The rears are a new set of stock 315/35 PSSs.
I also have a HRE set in 21" rears, but couldnt find screws to fit, so that will have to wait.

while i was monitoring these mods, i noticed the infamous wheel donuts, i heard and seen pictures of them, but seeing them in person with 2 steel plates join together by couple screws, i dont know whats the big deal.
It certainly didnt look so glamorous like in the pictures, and i wonder why they didnt do it to all the other fcars, since it looks like it cost couple bucks and no fitment issues, and i even have spacers in the front.

I dont recommend doing anything other than stock, but i have to be different ........

If your are going to track your new toy I think we'd all love to see the goat hitting the track. Many of us are far from a racetrack and won't ever have our GTO's wide open in a controlled environment. So slap on the go pro and show us what you can do with your new beast !

Weren't those Speciale wheels on your 612?

Did you put your GTO wheels on the 612?

John- You surely do get your money's worth out of a set of wheels. I remember the 458 wheels on your 612 looked great, or was that the HGTE wheel? Or both? All runs together after a while. GTO wheels on a Maserati, too. Would have thought they were too wide, but I guess not.

It looks like it came from the factory with the Speciale wheels. But they also looks like the base rims with the GTO wheels being an option that everyone ticked.

John- Thanks for the weight data. Have not started keeping track of that, yet, but probably should.

For everybody else, if you have not seen it, here are sizes and offsets for the 5 x 114.3 mm wheels. That is a 4.5" bolt pattern, giving Ferrari much more commonality than the older 5 x 108 mm pattern. The offsets are surprisingly close for most of the newer wheels.

The F12 uses a 9.5 inch front wheel like the 599GTO? The F12's oem front tire size is 255, which sounds very narrow for a 9.5 inch wheel. Is it supposed to be 8.5"?

Roupin- OEM front tire size on the F12 is 255/35 20, rears are the same size as the GTO tires.

Affirmative. But is the wheel an 8.5" or 9.5" in front?

Again thanks to Taz's data did I begin to form ideas in my head, he is a super great help in the ferrari community.

I've been playing around with the Aperta too and found the offset of its rear wheels are much more aggressive than the data suggests, I once put the rears on a 458 and found it to be perfectly flush with the fenders, so I'm guessing the offset is around 48 out back, I'll find out with the rims off now, because I got a 21" HRE murdered out set rears with 355s on now with good offset that will make it the most awesome looking Aperta in the world!

For once weight doesn't matter in a car even for the regular 599, the amount of torque it generates spins the rears easily up to 4th on full throttle, even the Aperta with 355s I have throuble putting power down, so heavy wheels is actually a plus in this car, weird I know.
Only with later f12s and FFs did they create a computer system and better handling beasts that can also put power directly to the ground and not up in smoke. Go drive an f12 and u'll see how giant a leap ferrari did in managing stupendous torque.

OEM f12 rims front should be 9.5, U be surprised how wide makers put on their fronts with relatively slim tires. For example, speciale has 9" fronts only to come with a 245 tire !! More reasons for u to play big I guess. But manufactures always reach the best compromise of course.

Roupin- 9.5", just like it says in the list. You can download an F12 owners manual from ferraridatabase.com and check it yourself. Same size wheels as a GTO, but smaller front tires. The GTO comes with 285/30 20s in front to further neutralize handling. HGTEs and SA Apertas have 8.5" front wheels.

Wow, didn't expect such a wide (for Ferrari) wheel in the front. Thanks for the info. I love the Pentagrams on my car (I know I'm a minority) but will pick up an F12 set to fit wider tires up front.
    I never understood the 245 front tires on the 599...carrying a V12.

Roupin- The 599 is seriously underwheeled and undertired, especially up front. The F12 and GTO improved on that. A 700 lb lighter C6 Z06 has 9.5" F and 12" R wheels and the new C7 Z06 has 10s and 12s. The GTO and F12 come close.

    Taz,
Would you advise going to MPSS 285/30/20 for HGTE front tires, 315/35/20 on rears?
I do not track car at all. Just normal driving. Want best choice for ride.
    Thanks,

So whats the reason for the narrow front 599 tires? Understeer for the novices who end up with a 615 HP beast? Thats the only thing I can think of.

I will say driving the car hard at the track I never felt it was seriously under tired but I do understand your point. I think the car would benefit from more rubber up front. I've often thought about going to the GTO style wheels on my 599. But I like the mono block challenge wheel look and to my eyes the GTO wheels belong on the GTO.
