612, time to buy?

    It seems prices of the 612 are now in the same range as 550/575. Do you think prices of 612 will stabelize? Fall further? Start to slowly pick up? 612 is a wonderfull car. Believe people like it better now than 5 years ago. Time to get in?

    They real are bottoming out, but the '08 OTO cars and newer don't seem to be falling as hard

    I also believe the looks are aging nicely- I didn't car for the car on introduction, but I grew to like it later on and eventually acquired one

    Definitely a good time to buy 612s. They are aging well, and we no longer see the usual complaints about its classic looks, as was the case when it first came out.

    It appears like the Gen 1 cars have bottomed out and should start to reverse. The 456, 550, 575, and 612 all share a version of the same great V12 engine.

    The 612 was the first all-aluminum Ferrari V12 (360 was the first all-aluminum V8) and also utilizes the mid-front engine "long bonnet" design that improves weight distribution and performance.

    In the past, 2+2 Ferraris never got the same credibility as the 2-seaters. But today's drivers see things differently and, thanks to technology, modern 2+2 cars can easily hold their own against most dedicated 2-seaters out there.

    When they first came out I thought who would buy one go those - I was all about 360s and CS's and tracking
    But now i know, I'm one of those - amazing how your perception of a car can change over time - The 612 is one of my all time favorites

    I also thought 612 wasn't for me. Till i had kids and ultimately found a 6spd manual. :)

    Fantastic car. Bought mine two years ago and loved every day since. Great looks and people start asking if that is "finally a good looking new Ferrari model" :)

    My guess is prices either have stabilized, or will not fall much further for all model years. I think the OTO models (late 2008 to 2010) have stopped falling, and if/when prices turn up these will be the ones to own.

    If you buy now you may not be at quite the bottom, but you may regret waiting too long. ;)

    The above from a recent auction in the UK. Well spec'd 612's really do look like a lot of class for the money right now.

    Also consider that they made just over 3,000 total cars through-out the 612 run. That is a fraction of the production output for 360 or 430 Ferraris. (I have no idea how many 599 variants were built).

    To put that another way, it is about the same total production as the Boxers (365 GT4 BB, 512 BB, and 512 BBi) and about 1/3 the production of TRs. I've driven both of those cars and the 612 would destroy them on the track. Of course, those are Enzo-era cars, which helps their values.

    If your just interested in investment amount, then your probably better off with a 2-place car. If you really want a great V12 Ferrari at a good price that's almost practical, the 612 should fit the bill.

    I just picked up a 2010 tdf blue 612. The thing is awesome if you want a car you can drive and enjoy. I picked it up because I believe it is the end of an era. I looked at an FF, which no doubt is a technological marvel, but I think the 612 looks will age more gracefully and my wife said "you can't pay over 200k for a hatchback. I might take it to the track once, to really open it up, but thats not what this car is for. I have a lotus exige and caterham superlight for that kind of nonsense, as well as some bikes when I really want to drive fast and take chances. The MSRP on my car was 340k, and I paid 200k less than that -- thats a pretty smoking deal on an amazing car. I plan to keep mine for a long time. After looking at a few, my 2 cents would be that an nice early manual transmission would be desirable, but they are pretty rare, or I would get a 2008+ OTO, you'll pay more but the upgrades (and the glass roof) were worth it to me.

    I'm a huge 612 fan, just the perfect car for me. I will continue to buy/sell other Ferrari's but my three pedal 612 isn't going anywhere. I would love to see pics of the 2010 TdF 612 that you bought.....

    I think the early model year has bottomed out. The second gen may drop a little more but I doubt they will be under $100k unless they have a lot of miles. The OTO's should be pretty stable. The 612 is aging very well. I agree, it looks better today than when it was released, especially comparing it to the FF. IMHO
