Is the 599 better with the original red tail lights or with the Novitec Rosso black ones? Has anyone made the conversion? pictures?

Red is the most elegant on that car imo. Black would look way too boy-racer for me.

Black looks out of place on the 599.

Blacked out tails looks like $h!t on any car in my opinion. It's the "altezza" trend of the current decade.

But like they say...opinions are like a$$h0l3s, everyone's got one.

Depends on what look your going for- red is classic eligence. The black, bad boy cool!

Made the car your personal statement - I love the blackout look.

I prefer the dark lights - not so much for the tail lights, but for the side lights, which look much better dark. Especially for USA-spec cars.

Depends on the rest of the car and the colour. If it is standard and Rosso Corsa than it won't be great. If it already has a bunch of mods and is a dark colour than maybe it might work.

seems like red is the preferred one so far ... the car (2007 black Daytona with retro fitted HGTE pack) had some modifications (-:

    Matte grey roof (not permanent)
    OEM GTO-like front grille
OEM Black boot prancing horse badge
    OEM matte CF mirrors
    OEM CF door handles
    OEM CF fuel door
    OEM CF wheel centre caps
    OEM CF door sill plates
    OEM CF led steering wheel
    OEM titanium petrol cap
    OEM titanium oil cap
    OEM titanium lug bolts
    OEM black/grey valve caps
    CF wing badges
    Michelin Pilot Super Sport
    Novitec black side repeaters
    Denso wiper blades
Custom CF/alcantara floor mat with prancing horse and HGTE logo
Audio upgrade (2 amplifiers, subwoofer, tweets, bass/meds)
Custom CF door triangle tweeter inserts

I will post pics later when I get a chance to take some with all the mods ...

I think they look okay on the right car, but I just don't see the point in reducing safety for aesthetics. I want people to see my taillights. In this day and age, with how often you see people drifting, swerving or slamming on brakes because of sell phones, last thing in the world I want is my brake lights to be less noticeable.

    Bob,

You couldn't be more correct about concerns over distracted drivers these days. However, the dark lights should really only look different when the lights are off. If they are on, they should be seen. And when it comes to these distracted drivers, it seems nothing short of shot-gun blast will get their attention.

One possible option are LED DRLs, but adding them to your Ferrari without hurting the original look can be challenging. Regardless, I've seen several attempts at it.

Perhaps not a valid concern, but I can just see an insurance company rejecting an expensive rearend claim because of an "illegal" mod.

Safety is a good point and if an insurance company can get away without opening their wallet they sure would! Maybe just the 3rd brake light in black would look good as it would match with the black boot prancing horse badge. Also the red taillights would stand out a lot more ...

Actually the DBS tail lights are clear plastic. The black you see is the plastic insert which matches the paint color of the car or in optional carbon fiber.
