SIM card location - Becker Infortainment system

My 2006 612 has the Becker infotainment system. Original invoice shows option purchased: "INFOTAINMENT (NAVI + TELEPHONE) $3,858.00"

Now that holding a phone whilst driving has been outlawed in my home state, I'd like to see if I can start using the functionality that I think I have. I've studied the manuals and can't find any mention of where the SIM card slot is located. When I fire up the telephone or SMS features I receive the error "SIM card not installed".

Can anyone tell me where the SIM card slot may be found?

SIM card slot is in glove box. Item 2 in diagram attached.
