I have seen the pictures from the accessory catalogue but does anyone on the forum has pictures of an actual car with carbon fibre flying buttress?

Terry -- do you know the vendor of the buttresses? Is it Ferrari? And how the heck do you keep all these files organized and available at what appears to be a moment's notice? Frank

Hi Taz, they are the ones. Ferrari OEM but I have never seen them on a 599 ... curious to see what they look like in real ...

Sounds like they were not big sellers, unlike the lower side panels

Tax, I think you are right. I already have the CF side mirrors, side skirts, fuel door and door handles ... the buttress would complete the set and make the car quite OEM unique ...

There are some GTOs with the aero kit who have left the c pillar in carbon.

Each to their own but that rear exhaust tip is one the most tasteless aftermarket additions I have seen on any Ferrari in my 14 years. Why tamper with such a beautiful design.

Back on topic, the OEM Ferrari carbon butress is lovely...

For tasteless I am sure we can find some other great examples....especially from the 80's.

What is even more impressive, is the amount of work (useless) that must have gone into rerouting all the exhaust pipes into a single "Pagani Zonda" style exhaust tip....

My first car was a clapped out 1974 Mini 1000. She could barely reach 80 mph downhill and with a hurricane behind her. She was held together by sticky tape. It was a banger as we call it here. But it was my banger.

I visited my local auto spares store every week looking for anything that could make her look like a Ferrari. Probably the funniest was buying a chrome exhaust extension which featured huge twin pipes. It was ridiculously fake but what did I care.

So I do completely get the joy of one's personal freedom to add/change anything on one's car. I applied plenty of lipstick to my delightful little mini. But it was still a banger.

What I don't get is why one would want to take a beautifully designed and engineered Ferrari and begin to apply cosmetic changes which over time shift it far from its original design.

My old Mini needed help. She was sweet, but an old dog. A 599 GTB however in its pure original form is IMO to be celebrated, cherished and I think, better left alone.

I saw a red car in a dealership which had carbon fibre flying buttress, but to me they looked wrapped so they must have been different.

I have heard the car was first designed without them so I wondered what that would have looked like?

I would certainly not call you crazy ... IMO it gives the car a bit more edge vs. the almost unassuming original classic look ... and let's be frank, a Ferrari can afford some level of vulgarity as long as you avoid going too far ...

Agree Oliver. It also ties in nicely with the carbon sill cover.

The CF wings from Ferrari are very cool. They may look odd on anything that's not black or dark grey.

Is it a carbon layer over a metal part ?

I think it would be difficult for that part to be 100% carbon since it's a part of the frame.. I remember seeing a 599 bodyshell. I don't see how a carbon part could be connected to the metal frame...

    thoughts ?
