My car was in for stone chip rectification - removal of the front bumper and both sill pieces (believe that is rocker panels to others). The shop calls me to say they need to remove the sill cappings, the carbon fibre piece that has Ferrari written on it in order to remove the sill covers.

They said they are concerned they will break it as it is firmly glued in place, that replacing them will cost £600 pounds each 😩 Anyone had the same experience, got any ideas about removal without destroying them?

I had exactly the same problem while replacing the plastic side sill/rocker panels with CF ones. First garage refused to do it for the same reason you mentioned. BTW back wheels also have to come out. All together a 5h job! The second garage is a well known (and not cheap) body shop near London and they did it without problem. Just go to a specialist that has done it before I guess ...

Taz, its a 07 599. Why would you glue sill plates in the first place especially ones that need to come off to allow removal os another panel! Seems a bit last minute, "enzo what about this screw or glue?

They are screwed on, according to the parts catalog, but sounds like yours are glued, too. The standard sill covers are only about 120 pounds from Eurospares, but the CF ones are much more expensive and have an aluminum Ferrari insert, as well.

Ask them if they can remove the rocker panels with the sill covers still attached. if so, they can be masked for repainting and protection.

Taz, they are both glued and screwed (small screws on top). Screws are (relatively) easy to remove if in good conditions. The glue is actually silicon and keeps the kick plate in place (no screws at the bottom). The aluminum kick plates are coming out easily but the silicon on CF is a little more tricky and yes CF can break! I don't think you can replace/remove the rockers without removing the kick plates though. If you slip a sharp tool underneath you may be able to cut through the silicon I guess ...

Olivier- Sounds like a putty knife might be a good place to start.

Where are you in the UK?
We may be able to recommend someone, or at least your garage could give them a call to see how they did it?
Bar Tech in Cambridge changed mine.

Wheels - I am in South Cheshire, I use Lloyds Auto bodies in Manchester, they know how to paint that is for sure. But I only came to know about them after I had my car painted 1st by a well known paint shop in Birmingham but 1 trip to Italy and it needed repainting, looked like it had been in a scrap with a 12 bore! When the Birmingham shop had the car they rang me to say they couldn't remove rockers without risking breaking the kick plates so we agreed they would paint the rockers insitu - overall the result was poor!

My local dealer then recommended Lloyds, who repainted the bumper last spring. Usual 3500 miles to Italy last summer and not ONE chip. They didn't repaint the rockers, but they did touch on the issue of removing the kick plates....no easy task with a lot of risk!

Solving the problem has become my holy grail !

Sorry to bring back this old thread, but I searched and could not find a definite answer to the original post. It seems like the carbon piece is glued and has a few small visible screws on the surface. I tried using a heat gun to warm up the carbon, but it does not seem to be freeing up the carbon. Has anyone been able to remove these without breaking the carbon? My car is specifically a 2010 612. thanks again
