Looking to purchase a 612 for a semi-dailey driver. What are the years to stay away from as far as a mechanical/electrical failure.? I had a 2007 430 and drove it for a year and now have a 2012 458. Thanks
no years were bad. if you want stick you have go pre 08/08 or pre OTO. If you are ok with f1 id go with a 2009 or 2010 OTO as those were the most heavily upgraded and equipped cars.
I have a 2008 just pre OTO that I believe has everything the OTO has except the magneto on the wheel and the glass roof - cc brakes, HGT2 etc
just thought I'd drop this here -- I have a 2010 OTO. I think its a great car. I like the glass roof for how it makes the car feel inside. I somehow got a large chip on the leading edge of the glass roof (from a rock or something), that quickly turned into a crack that extended backward. The roof is a 28000 dollar part. Include labor - apparently you have to remove the windshield and rear window, along with some interior trim pieces to do the job - call it an even 33k. I was previously going to pick up an FF with the glass roof, but I am going to skip that option now. Just a little something to consider when looking at OTO and previous cars.
I know it's too late now, but small chips can be repaired. This may have saved you a huge repair bill. Although with this roof, maybe not. Just a thought.
Tom- They are very rare because few were imported or built for any market. For the US market, NHTSA says there were 29 imported in 2009, 26 in 2010, and 1 in 2011. Not many from which to choose. Plus the tough twin disc 599 clutch is nice to have, as is the manettino.
Taz, I think you meant late 08, except for the 07 Sessantas. BTW, do you know the number of 08's in the U.S.?
No, I meant CY 07 about the same time Motronic 7.3.2 was introduced (F133H engine). No data on MY 08 612s in NHTSA's site.
Ah, OK, I misread the post. The late 07 models onward may have all been special orders. I was thinking you were saying they were OTO's, which didn't start until mid-08.
No - the 07 models were still part of Gen 1 cars, except that during that year they started integrating the new Bose muti-function entertainment systems. I have an 07 that has the older Becker systems. Only the OTO cars were special order, IIRC. Also note that during 2007, the limited edition Sessanta models were released for that year only. These were the precursor to the OTO cars that had the F1-S systems.
I too have a 2008 just pre-OTO with HGTC. I specifically avoided the OTO because I didn't like the look of the glass roof, it made the car look two tone. I looked at a 2010 TDF Blue at Ferrari of Scottsdale , but it did not have the HGT or the carbon brakes. I almost put a deposit on the car because the glass roof didn't look too bad, but the salesman saved me. He said if you want a car with the HGT package, you shouldn't put a deposit on this car. Best advice ever.
All the 2010s had CCMs, they were standard with the OTOs from Spring 08, but not pre-OTO 08s. I think on the interim 08 cars, Ferrari was still fiddling with nomenclature early on and used the old HGTC nomenclature for what was really a combined HGT2 and CCM package since the old HGTS/HGTC packages were not compatible with Motronic 7.3.2 and the F133H engine. They soon changed that to separate HGT2 and CCM options on the interim 08s. When the Sessantas came out in mid CY07, they were available with the HGT1 package (Sessantas had F133H engines) and that package with minor changes became the HGT2 package on F133H 612s. As far as I know, even the late MY 07s were all special order, even before the F133H engine was introduced, but I would need to do some confirming to be sure.
Terry Just to clarify, does my early 2008 non OTO but has HGT2, CC's, sport exhaust etc have a different clutch then the OTO's that came out a short time later - thanks for all your great knowledge
John- Affirmative, you have a single disc dry clutch that is identical to the one that came on the 456s and Maranellos. Only the Sessantas and OTOs used the 599's twin dry disc clutch, flywheel, and gearbox case.
