    Hi all,

Ive owned my 599 for a year now, and maybe its been there the whole time, but I just noticed this hose sticking down... its appears to drain something around the alternator. I am not a mechanic, but can someone calm my worries and tell me this is the way it is supposed to be? I just can't remember seeing it hanging down like this before.

    Thanks!

It's normal to have it, but yours looks a little longer than some I've seen.

This hose will give the alternator some cooling.
It takes the "cool" air under the car, due to a hole in the bottem.
More worry's you should have at the little spot on the cooling hose.
It made some contact with something else.

Shouldn't it be attached via large hose clamp to the undertray, which has a duct directing air to it? I doubt it should be just hanging down like that. Frank

In the GTO WSM, that is called a drainage hose and it connects to the front underbody with a hose clamp. You can see the hose (40) in the first parts catalog drawing of the alternator and compressor and the place where it connects in the flat underbody parts catalog section on the middle right of the panel (looking forward, left in the drawing). Whoever did the last service did not bother to connect it, so your hose clamp is missing.

Just to be clear Taz, it is connected at the top...its supposed to connect at the bottom as well?

I looked everywhere for where it might hook up to, but didn't see anything. I will get my light under there this evening and see if I can see the missing connection spot.

Also, why does my own picture make me feel dirty :)

lol i just took a look at mine, it's very similar to op's. It's bigger and longer than the GTO's above.
Hmm, is that a good thing?

Ok got it. Normal for it to stick down, seems weird to me though.

Also Taz, I don't see the undertray on my car in that section your photo has, or on Globs GTO. Maybe we are both missing part of the undertray?

Sorry if I am being dense. My dad is a retired mechanic but I inherited none of his mechanical sense. Just his love of cars...

It appears you are missing a huge part of the undertray to me.

So NO the hose should not hang down like that, it should connect to the MISSING undertray.

Just wanted to confirm PSK quote that it must be fixed to the undertray, but i was thinking OP removed the undertray before taking the picture.

Picture i made on my GTO was AFTER removing the undertray and if it is missing it will be an expensive fix + OP should contact the seller to learn why (not normal).

Ok whoa. Now I get it...I did NOT remove the undertray. If it's missing, it fell off somewhere. Recent service was by IAP Racing in Virginia. I don't think it looked like this until very recently. Am I to assume they somehow did not reinstall the undertray correctly? It's probably sitting on the road somewhere!!!

    Ugh...

Does anyone have a pic of what the bottom of my car looked like before the undertray disappeared? Never mind, I've found them. Wondering now how to go about the next step. No doubt my car looked correct before the service about 8 weeks ago. I knew it looked different, only now do I realize how much is missing. Needless to say I will be contacting the shop...details to follow...

Looks like the missing part would be about 1200 plus shipping from eurospares, plus hardware to mount it.. This is unbelievable. Interesting to hear what they say about it. Car probably has 3 trips for total of 75 miles since service.

Barry- Amazing both of you had the same piece missing. Might still be lying around the shop floor. That is a $2500 or so part from Ricambi, plus 30 fasteners.

You should also check the back, there are 2 undertray : one on the front (believe me, it cannot fall off and cannot be lost, it is a very large piece 2 meters long !) and one on the back of the car. I removed both of them on my 599 GTO when i was cleaning my car. I found this picture some time ago, looks ugly but at least you can see the front and the back undertray - this is a GTO but i believe same on GTB.

Yep, thanks Glob. It's definitely missing, I knew something did not look right but only seeing the picture reminded me of what the car used to look like, now I feel like an idiot.

I didn't inspect it after the service, it may be that they never replaced it when they serviced the car.

I don't see it falling off either. Has to be they never replaced it after the service. As I said, we will see their response when I call today.
