Have owned a 365GTC4 for many years, not selling .Thinking of a 599 or a 458 as a possible retirement present to myself.Any thoughts on the pros and cons of one vs the other. These are the only two "modern" cars that get me going. Thanks,Mike

Value for money I'd say go for the 599, but nothing beats a test drive.

There is a good thread going in the 575 section titled "575 Market & offer activity input". If you read down a bit there is some good commentary about 599 and 458 ownership. You might find that helpful.

V12 vs. V8; front-engine vs. mid-engine; dual disc vs. dual-clutch (I believe). Really need to drive them a good distance to make a determination. Enjoy the process. Love my 599 but am looking at both a 458 and McLaren 570.

Seems like all your cars are front engined, why not try a mid engined one for a change?

Not in any picture but I have Porsche 912 that I am restoring. Leaning to the mid engine V8 F car for a different experience.

    Wow, nice garage!!

Is that a COPO by any chance? Cant tell if that says 427 or 327 on the fender badge. Nice variety of sport and muscle.

    She's a beaut.

I regret selling my '66 SS396 tribute back in 1997. Had a bored-out 454 in it with M21, 4:11 rear. Drum brakes and all.

As for your dilemma, you already have a front-engined 12, albeit a vintage model. I'd go for the 458, for a different experience. I've had a 355 for a while and plan on getting hold of a 612 scag pretty soon. I have driven neither the 458 nor the 599, but I would imagine that the 458 would provide you with a more original experience. Stylistically, you can't go wrong either way, of course. Get both!!!

    Cheers,

    Vic

What a beautiful car. I agree the 458 would give you more variety. The 599 continues your V12 tradition. I think the 458 has the speed of the 599 at least at lower speeds, the 599 might get it at higher speeds due to gearing. I've had both and I think the 458 is better built. However, very little will compare to the sound of the V12, both the induction and exhaust- and while the 458 has plenty of power, it does not quite have the buttery smoothness of the V12. That said, if it were my choice, Id choose the 458.

458 is going down on value... 599 starting going up on value as investment...
If you buy a HGTE only 200 were made
    2800 GTB F1, 599 Gtos 66 apertas

458 ...!? 7000 up to 9000 never will reach the 599 value !! ever one day... NEVER

I believe Frank Faeth (FPFaeth here in FChat) may be parting with his utterly amazing 599. It's a dark maroon with a deer interior. My wife, The Cowgirl, and I drove it last summer. It is, without question, one of the most beautiful Ferraris either of us have ever seen. Frank manages to blend an elegant, very sophisticated air with a sort of brutal demeanor. Think of a beautiful buxom woman who, it turns out, is a lethal Bond villain. We found the car's unusual color highlights the 599's curves in a way the darker and lighter hues don't. If it wasn't for Cowgirl's infatuation for her '"sleek Italian gigolo" (aka Guido, our steam roller 550) we might have simply tossed Frank a satchel of cash along with Guido's keys and headed for the interstate! If you are shopping for a 599 you could do far, far, worse.

Since posting my comment (above) on Frank Faeth's 599 I've gotten a few PMs asking if I took any pictures of it. I did. They are here: bit.ly/TheFerrari599

I'm not sure of the sales status or the broker involved, if any. Nice car.

Also, the pictures Cowgirl and I did at the FCA 2016 Meet in Columbus last June are here: bit.ly/2016FCAMeet.

Note: this album was largely for friends and family thus the prominence of the silver 550, a.k.a. Cowgirl's 'sleek Italian gigolo' which took the Premio d'Argento prize. Very fun week. Looking forward to Daytona.
