Transmission error

Eugene, I had a similar issue in my e-gear murcielago. Except that my car wouldn't shift after driving it a few miles. It was intermittent as well. The culprit was the potentiometer shift sensor for the e-gear (or F1) actuator. Maybe that is the same culprit for your car. The only reason I'm saying this is that Magnetti makes the selespeed actuators for Lamborghini and Ferrari. Hope that gives you another reference point.

Eugene- First thing to do with an F1 problem (besides having SD3 diagnosis done), is to have the fluid changed, system bled, and PIS reset. Should be done every 3 years, at any rate, which was Ferrari's last recommendation for F1 systems..

I had a similar problem with my 612. Intermittent "transmission failures". It was the potentiometers. When replaced all was well. Thankfully not an expensive problem to fix.

 

My 612 has only done 4500 miles and I have done 3000 of those this year. I had this fault just after getting it and it would not select reverse, it cleared by itself. I took it to my local Ferrari dealership (Edinburgh) to have it checked over. They said nothing was recorded and it would probably just be a gremlin.
It happened to me again at about 4000 miles when I had parked face in to a wall as I went to the ATM. That was quite embarrassing.
A gent in an old fiat van that was parked nearby came out and said he used to work in the old Ferrari dealership in Edinburgh, was it an F1 gearbox, it is. He said this was a common problem.
He gave me a hand to push it backwards so I could get out and then the fault went away. I decided not to spend another £200 for nothing. It is away for the winter and I will see how it goes next year.
I will check to find out about your fix though.

It started to appear after my F1 fluid change, the garage overfilled the fluid, the reason I know is that it created a spill around the gearbox starting from the filling cap
I guess it could also be your F1 level, likely too high or too low. Or spilled oil on the connectors that creates shorts...
Take out the left rear wheel and look though the hole in the cast aluminium body connector, you ll see the F1 tank, and also if it is wet or not
The F1 tank has a level indicator but I am not sure if it displays too high or just low level

 

I've found that mine almost does it once heat soaked. the US 612's have 6 catalysts. I'm taking it to a Ferrari specialist in town, before the SE Biltmore Gathering to see if it just needs a fluid change and some sensor replacements or adjustments. I'm also looking into getting the Super Sprint catless headers back to my Tubi's.
