    Actually, I think you have the purpose of the pump confused. The pump ensures adequate flow through the heater core when heat is selected. There is a separate valve the controls whether hot water (coolant) is allowed to flow to the heater core.

    This pump would correct a lack of heat when the car is stationary or in traffic. (when moving there is usually enough movement of the coolant through the heater core...the aux pump supplements flow at low rpms, where the water pump is not moving the coolant as much)

    Thanks...I have corrected this. There is a valve which fails and lets hot coolant into the front radiator that diminishes the A/C cooling.
