well, after wanting one since I was a kid and searching for a decent one for several months, I finally bought a Wrangler today. 2006, 23k miles (allegedly, I'm assuming those tires throw off the speedo and odo by a big margin), 4.0 straight six with a 6-speed manual, lift kit, off road tires, etc, etc. can't wait to take it off road! :)

other Jeep fans, post your pics!

Yeah! Jeeps are cool. I like this one (and I like lights too obviously). 5.7 HEMI conversion just for kicks after supercharging the V6 and blowing two cylinders out of it. .

nice! Is the hemi too much power to put to the ground when off road? I was surprised how easy it was to overpower the drivetrain in the mud today in 4 high. Didn't try 4 low.

I like that Land Cruiser too!

I looked for a Rubicon but couldn't find one that wasn't either beat to hell, or overpriced. I think the mods done to this one will be a decent compromise for now.

I'd agree on that. Rubicons that are "clean" are tough to find. I found mine on www.traderonline.com. I live in central MN. Came up in Green Bay, WI, on a Thursday night. I picked it up on Saturday morning. Mint 2006 with 14,000 miles. Traded in my 2004 Sport with 45,000 miles plus $6000. I think I did OK.

That "axle lock" button on the dash really adds a lot. My buddy gives me **** that I paid $6000 for "the button". He's got a Rubicon too and didn't even know what "axle lock" was until I told him. He's never used his (the lockers) - bought his brand new in 2005.

I am looking up "too much power" in my dictionary but I cant find a meaning!!! Heck, I am lamenting I did not take the 6.1 SRT option. Now considering a supercharger install later this summer. Its never enough power.

My friend has an '08 Rubi with the 500hp hemi (6.4). I've driven it offroad (really offroad). Throttle modulation is a bit more difficult than with the stock motor, but it isn't as bad as you would think.

I'm thinking of doing one, and if I did I would do the base 5.7.

What's the point of the Hemi engines in the Wrangler??? I just "wheeled" the pi$$ out of mine in Moab and was never lacking horsepower. My only limitation was traction. Does more HP make a rig "wheel" better or is it more bragging rights?

I suppose tire size would play a roll in this. I only run 33's. I suppose 37's or larger might require more HP to turn them??????

I think in most wheeling situations the stock engine is OK. The issue is driving to where you are wheeling. The stock engine is rough, unrefined, and struggles to pull a loaded jeep (think aftermarket bumpers, winch, rock rails, chain saw, recovery gear, etc., etc.) up mountain passes.

I have an '08 4 door (unlimited) Sahara, stock other than Rubi wheels and tires. But it is on permanent loan to my parents. I have put many miles on it, and the stock v6 just blows on the road (at least where I am--central Oregon--has to handle 7000 feet eleveation).

Can you list 'em all? Pluses and minuses of various setups or stock configs?

Diggin' the driveway and it's balance with landscape, too.

All these new jeeps are nice, but how about a old jeep to mix things up a little. Yes its lacking the lift kits and big tires. But it sure is fun.

I don't, my grandfather restores these old jeeps though. So there is several finished Jeeps and unfinished jeeps, bodies, and engines all over the place here and I lose track of the stories behind each one. That one is my fathers. My uncle here on f-chat may see this and chime in on some history behind it though.

Right now we are working on restoring a 1943 military jeep back to its original condition. Paint went on yesterday.

    driving impressions after a month:

This car has the vehicle dynamics of a drunken frat boy. at least once a day it will do something totally unexpected! If you're not really smooth, the Jeep feels like driving a bouncy house.

If you have a problem with speeding....buy a Jeep! 30 feels like 90.

    drum brakes on the rear...seriously?

I've only had it off road twice (and both times through muddy fields), but the thing is unstoppable.

Donuts in the snow are laughably fun in a car with such a short wheelbase.

If I drive through a parking garage in 1st gear at around 3k rpm, it will set off car alarms.

Apparently, 2 feet of standing water (in the form of a flooded creek) does no favors to the electrical system. D'oh! Although I do think aftermarket fog lights had something to do with that.

I had to add some nerf bars so my short, fat ass can climb in. Now I have some sacrifices to make to the off-road trail gods.

    chicks dig a Wrangler more than a 911. who'd a thunk it?
