I gave final approval on wheels from manufacturer this week and missing rail section from GM showed up... finishing sitting into place onto suspension undercradles on chassis table, then setting LS7 in place to fabricate the honeycomb Carbon/Kevlar central tub area molds to tie the bulkheads together... update on color choices too... a real rendering forthcoming instead of my hand sketches...LOL!!

    Todd,

Might I ask what company is working with you on the wheels? Custom wheels must be a chunk of change.

Larry Dove @ EVOD Industries. Last year @ SEMA he had done some of the major components on a modern SL Mercedes chassis that was draped in a vintage SL body... The grill looks original but was actually on piece billet out what must have been a 4' x 2" block...LOL!! http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/mercedes-bent.html

That thing is cool as hell. I'd prefer it on a more reliable platform but that's just cool.

Those wheels on the 190SL were great. This is an awesome project! Glad you're making the most out of it, rather than using the body to cover a 350 and calling it a day.

Worked on the chassis getting it welded and bolted to the undercradles in the jig... I set the diff back in to check swing clearances on the CV's then plumb bobbed the trans into location... I'm going to making a wood cradle to hold the trans and engine combo in space while fabricating this first crossmember and central tunnel molds... I need to take the crate motor there next week and hook it up to the trans and then fab my fixture to hold them...

I knew the engine was back a bit but didn't realize how far back the engine sits.

    Thanks for the pic

From the front axle centerline it's 30" to the back of the block..... The throttle body though was close to protruding through the hood....( none of that was hanging out there on the original 327's) soooo... I moved it back 3 more inches.... :) and I don't have to service a distributor or points through the dash on the ECM/fuel injected crate motor... :) :)

Nearly off the chassis table and off to get the certified cage (with normalization documentation), headers & jigs made... Waiting for fuel cell to have in place for cage work, patterns and molds taken off tub before leaving too... I'll try to not work so hard and take a few update pics this weekend... :)

Dry-sump and steering done, footwells tweaked and finalized with pedals, front engine compartment enclosures made, (polyurathane foam cores with double opposing layers of carbonfiber) plywood patterns made for floor pans, rear enclosures, package tray area, and rear wheel housings..... And mock-up of fuel cell and radiator...Due in this week??? I wasn't going to assemble the brake systems until it went back to gether for final assembly after anodizing, ceramic coating & painting... but I was Idle waiting for the fuel cell and radiator to mount up.... Still trying to get off the chassis table and off for cage work... but trying not to rush and just make it right... *( I changed the pedals from my first mounted correct floor pedal set-up.... but the action with me @ 6'2" made it awkward with the low seating, steering and 42" overall height... so I pulled them out and went to an overhung set-up which allows me to slide my size 12's under the pedals letting my legs & 'junk' pass under the steering wheel & column...)
