My critique... the fascia looks taller from the bottom, and while bringing the nose down, it doesn't give enough top balance to it. I like the LED set up, and would likely like it more on a car that had that balance on the entire car. The windshield and roofline don't mesh with it as well in my view. I like the blacked out mirror and rockers. If this is the direction of the 2015 Camaro, it is a good direction to start with, especially if the canopy is reworked. Can't say I enjoy that look. I did not mind the first Gen of the new models. but the front end is not very good looking (z28 '14) IMO Image Unavailable, Please Login
unfortunately, with all that black on the bottom,it looks like it's wearing "waders" getting ready for the flood because if you look at the tire to body relationship,it's not excessive
Still not a fan of the high beltline that these carry, really looking forward to the Mustang (allegedly) break out of the retro trend for muscle cars..
You know, that is a good part of it-an attempt to break up the vast flank with a black accent. I'm not sure its working with that angle/lighting, etc. I do like the styling update though. Dropped an inch or two, in Z/28 guise, I might have a look.
This is funny because they made the Corvette's rear tail lights look like the Camaro and now they are trying to make the Camaro's headlights look like the Corvette. I think GM has officially run out of ideas!
John, As a designer, what is the fascination with the use of black plastic today? It is absolutely everywhere, I can't think of one case where the car wouldn't have looked better without it or at least significantly less anyway. It is primarily a cost or production reason? Remember those 1st generation Avalanche's... Thanks! Erik
Its a GM thing particularly. IMO, it's very 80's. If you look at the 308, it has black plastic grills and wings all over it. The 328 cleaned up part of it and every progression to the 360 removed more and more. We are heading in the reverse trend now unfortunately. I don't like it which is why the new Vette looks better in Cyber gray than any color. And, you can even get them to paint the front hood grill in cyber gray to make it even cleaner looking.
designer choice cost in that order some designers think that by painting something black it automatically goes away and fades into the background on dark cars maybe, not so on everything else C7 has wayyyy too much for my personal taste, but to make all those pieces in bodycolor adds cost/complexity in mfg/paint matching issues, etc.
while I would agree that GM certainly is guilty of the "too much flat black Krylon" syndrome.....I think if you look objectively at the competitive landscape, there is plenty of guilt to go around amongst car mfg. GM certainly doesn't have exclusive rights to flat black "stuff" all over their cars and yes,the Cyber Grey C7 is the "bomb"
+1 Ugly replacement, wrong design direction. Hope that does not become the 2015... Beyond ugly front.
Thanks for the responses! John I just finished reading all corvettes are red, and it was a fascinating read! Erik
that book was fun i gave my copy to a fellow F Chatter sadly, the author James Schefter passed away in '01 he did manage to capture some of the zaniness/mayhem that takes place during the development of a car program......or to use my phrase..."never a dull moment"
Either that or someone got confused about which lights were for which design, and nobody wants to admit it was a mistake. All the best, Andrew.
I think the 5th Generation Camaro is a great design, but the new one (a facelifted 5th or 6th?) doesn't look particularly coherent to me. All the best, Andrew.
Still looks like an oversized Fisher Price car. Yuck. They need to reduce its size by 10%+, including those gigantic wheels.
