I have wanted a 1970 yellow Boss 302 with shaker hood for a long time being a Trans Am fan of that 1970 era. I'm not even a big muscle car guy, but fan of this car and its road racing pedigree. You can see my thread from 9 years ago when I had a chance at one before they ran up in value.

I will keep this thread up to date about my ownership experience.

They are one of my favorite cars. I just drove a 2013 Boss and they are wonderful cars to drive. Jay Leno bought the Boss pver the higher hp shelby because it is such a great handling car

Warmest congrats on your new car and enjoy iy in good health. The pictures are great. I love the shaker hood. Looking forward to hearing updates on your ownership adventures.

    Best

that's as good as it gets right there. I will have to keep my eyes out for a vintage racer, non-original so it is only 5 digits. :)

I agree, although I'd lose the giant torque thrust repops and install real Minilites(still available in the correct size, BTW).

Congrats on a great car with cool options.

Lovely car. My only concern is that it is too nice. If ithe underside is as nice as I bet it is, you don't even want to risk driving thorugh a puddle. There also look to be fragile grease pencil marks, an old unvented battery that can leak and ruin stuff in the vicinity, decal on the valve cover that won't last too many engine heat cycles, that kind of thing. It looks to be a high point show car which makes it usable really only for shows, unless you are committed to just enjoying it and re-restoring it in several years.

The racecar, as yours is wearing its original Magnums. Although, Minilites will bolt on to your car with no mods.

any substantial differences between a US and Canada car back then?

I assume it had gauges in metric that had to be converted at some point, etc?

It presents that way, but actually not a 100 point perfect car. very original car, Roy thinks original paint with a little respray, PPI's opinion was older restoration. Either way the paint is very very nice, but not perfect. There are two small rust bubbles the PPI found and I can't find them, I'm starting to wonder if they PPI'd the wrong car. :D It is nice, but not too nice to drive, which is exactly the way I wanted it. Originality and the options were my priority when looking for a car, not a show car.

It runs really really good, I have had many modern sports car people say the Boss 302 performance disappoints them. I am very impressed with the performance though! At some point I will get to a local Mustang expert and have them go through car and motor documenting deltas from original. Maybe some engine work was done like many of them? I know for sure it has a racing clutch, so that makes me suspect more. Roy might be able to give his opinion as he's driven 50+ Boss cars.

I think you could do the ride/stance, wheels and tires and headlight covers pretty easily and cheaply, and in such a way that the car could be easily returned to stock.

good question. I will have to ask over on Boss302.com. I thought at first I had a KPH speedo as it was reading almost exactly 40% high (reading 50 in a 30). however, Canada didn't covert until later in the 1970's and the speedo goes up to 120, which would indicate a MPH speedo. Guess mine is just reading 40% high, makes me wonder how long it has been reading high because car only has 33k miles in the first place. :)

I think these days more appropriate to take a non-Boss 302 Mustang to make a Trans Am racer. Not 100% sure, but I think even the official 1970 Boss Trans Am cars weren't built on Boss chassis.

    lol! :)

since your car has the lower axle and short ratio gearbox, it could be the gauges are not calibrated correctly (ie calibrated for standard gears/axles). although I wouldn't think that would be a 40% difference.

true. and I won't stop you from buying another car :D

Canada didn't go metric until 1977. The USA was supposed to switch then to but they chickened out. They kept pounds, ounces and MPH! Not to mention the '1/4 mile' also...
