How many GT 40's did Salt Walther own? The list is growing.

That is cool. It's hard to imagine that sitting next door and not having a clue.

Hot damn, that's my dream (a barn find) - that it's a GT40 makes it so much sweeter.

Did Salt Walther really own a lot of GT40s (I know there were other "barn finds" tied to Walther...)? Did he even drive one??

Walther owned s/n 1005 which was burned in his father's garage fire, buried and years later resurrected; his father owned 1067;and J3. I don't think that you can classify a GT-40 as American Muscle.

It seems to be the trend now to call any American exotic American muscle, be it a Saleen S7 or a GT40.

    Shaughnessy strikes again!

Is there anyone else with such an impressive track record?

    The mind fairly boggles….

Wow! And not too far away from where I grew up. I don't know how Tom does it.... I'd be happy to find an old vw bug in a garage or barn. Nope, nothing yet

Great one from Shaughnessy again! At his day Colin Crabbe used to be pretty handy at finding things too..

I was at a Shelby club meeting in Van Nuys at Galpin when he showed up in it but that was over 40years ago, can't remember if it was $20,000 or thereabouts. Salt Walther was in a hospital bed recovering from burns so wasn't in much of a bargaining position. The car had a Mk. II body on the back of it instead of the Mk I.
I always thought it was the gearbox that kept it garage bound but recently they said engine problems, I don't see how hard it would be to fix anything on a 289. Apparently Jay Cushman, the expert in GT40s helped dig the car out of the garage but apparently low bid leaving the door open for Tom.
