I guess you could hire a local mustang club expert or bone up on it yourself. Never owned a classic mustang but I would believe that the Marti report should be reliable.

I just wanted to give a quick reply to your questions:

    1) This statement means less to Fords than other makes. From the VIN, 9T02S
    9 1969
T Built in Metuchen, NJ plant
    02 Fastback body style
    S 390, FE
So, the information provided matches what exists. There still is much more to it though to finalize if the car is truly original. They have a "Marti" report. Ask to see it, to verify the options. Also, the driver's door has a body tag that has the options, as well as another tag under the hood and driver's side dash under the windshield. These should all match.
I've summarized here, let me know if you desire further information/clarification.

    2) I have zero knowledge of this business.

Good luck!! These cars are alot of fun.

    Chris

Marti report for all fords- Like PHS for all Pontiacs.

As far as the dealer?? In my experience all car dealers are liars- So i would ONLY buy anything based upon a first hand inspection AND a review by a marque specialist- WAY too easy to leave WAY too much money on the table with these kinds of guys.

I know of two very nice 1969 Mustang fastbacks for sale in Memphis. One is a Marti-documented 1 of 1 white on white Mach 1, 428 SCJ, 4 speed with 4.30 rears. The other is a black on black Sports Roof edition (looks like a Mach 1 to me), 428 CJ, 4 speed, also Marti documented 1 of 475.

Both are VERY nice cars. The white Mach 1 is roughly $90K and the black Sports Roof is somewhere around $60K. Though technically I'm not affiliated, the dealer/consigner is a friend of mine and I bought my 308 from him last year. He's very reputable and a genuine good guy.

    Good luck in your search!

Appears that with 4:30 differential gearing the white 69 Mach 1 has the Drag Pack option.
Obviously not made for comfortable freeway cruising.
    I have a 1 of 1 1973 Mach 1 Cobra Jet.
Would be interesting to know what feature/s made this 69 Mach 1 a 1 of 1 example.

This is a direct quote from the Marti report: “This is the only 1969 Mach 1 Mustang produced with a 428 SCJ engine and 4-speed manual transmission that was painted white with a white interior and equipped with a 4.30 Traction-Lok rear axle.”

The car is located at Art and Speed Classic Car Gallery in Collierville, TN.

Exactly what I was thinking. Makes sense with SCJ.

Any Mustang guy can tell, I just can't remember. I think it should have an oil cooler, and maybe a special fuel filter??? Its been a while.

    call Marti on the phone.

If you are treating it at as an investment car and banking on it being restored to OEM specs, definetly get it checked out top to bottom by a pro who knows Fords inside and out.

I might get some flack for this, but ever since I started searching for a 308 back in 1998, up to the recent search for my current 348 (and everything in between) I very rarely saw a collector car (of any make) in SW FLA at a dealer that was truly "as billed" or "as described" or "as original" as any dealer professed. 100% original or restored to 100% original with correct repo parts must have a different meaning down there. A lot of the times it's just simple stuff like incorectly painted/plated parts and materials mostly in the engine compartment, but to true collectors and your future (potential) buyers it will make a difference.

If you are looking at it as just an clean, original looking/cool ride then burn some rubber.

    JMWO :)

Agree. Anyone spending a lot of money on a collector car would be well advised to have an specialized expert perform a PPI.
