Shelby GT350R: the hardest Mustang yet - BBC Top Gear this looks very interesting. carbon wheels?! konigsegg and mustang in same sentence. this is a very very cool track car to me. stick shift and n/a engine. didnt love the z28 as too much redneck but this is another story. if can come in under $75k would be hard to pass up
THis is a home run design ... I don't know if I can pass one up ... I was never a fan of the late model GT500s but this car has it all... lets see how it is priced.... I am hoping to see one at BJ in scottsdale this week.... I hope....
yeah I really dig the new Mustang design, but for some reason in this spec (I think it's the rocker panels and spoiler combo), it makes it look like the greenhouse is tiny. the proportions just don't work. I think the standard Mustang GT looks better...so maybe the best route is to buy a Mustang GT and mod it
We are probably looking at the regular GT350. The flat plane engine just sounds amazing. We never ended up getting the Boss 302 that we had wanted. So, I think there will be a GT350 in our garage. Word is low $50's for the regular GT350, so I expect the R to undercut the price on the Z/28 by a fair amount. I'm thinking around $69K
Difference in price between a 69K Gt350r and a z28 can easly be explained by cermaic brakes. BTW you can get a z28 if you shop a round for under 65K, they dont seem to be moving fast.. Does the 350R have cermics? Still gotta be a few hundred lbs lighter than a z28, of course the next camaro may be lighter still and with a rumored 600hp from a supercharged mtor. Good times.
Word is the GT350R is 130lbs lighter than the GT350 track pack, and 500lbs lighter than the Mustang GT. That would make the R 5-700lbs lighter than the Z/28. I don't know about carbon brakes. It does have carbon fiber wheels that lose 13lbs of unsprung weight at each corner. Unfortunately, Ford does not release a lot of information initially.
I'm hoping to add one to my stable as well... I bought a 2013 Boss 302 LS this past summer and I think the GT350 will make a nice stable mate. Now the debate is between the standard or the R. I saw earlier that Jalopnik is reporting that for now that Liquid Blue on all the show cars will not be an option. I hope Ford reconsiders, I really like that blue.
Just score an extra, spoiler-free, deck lid - and save the original for track days and discos. Highland Green, no stripes, and aftermarket A/C for hot days ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sounds like the ordering guide just leaked and carbon ceramic brakes are included in the R package. "Selecting the R package also adds MagneRide, carbon ceramic brakes (on the front) and bracing while deleting the rear seat, air conditioner and more." More info at AutoWeek: http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/official-ford-ordering-guide-shelby-mustang-gt350-gt350r-leaks Looking at the guides, a regular GT 350 with the track pack would be the one for me. Cool car...
Oh man. This car is going to be tempting. Never thought I'd see the day where a production Mustang could be had with an IRS, DOHC 4V all aluminum V8 with flat plane crank, CF wheels, and CC brakes. I probably couldn't do A/C delete here in Florida though.
My Ford dealer just called and said the allocations will be 2nd quarter, 2015. I am leaning 350 with track package also. Probably will sell the 500 this spring. Hard car to let go of though. Not one problem except tires and 12k miles.
I have a GT500 as well. Has run flawlessly, except for Sirius XM receiver crapping out. Went through tires fast though. I need a new set pronto and only have 14k miles on the car. Probably will go with Michelin PS, then wait and see what Ford will do with the rumored upcoming GT500 (2017 model?). The GT350 is a tempting car though.
That meas an R weighs what 31-3200lbs? What is the difference between and R and Gt350 with track pack. And if you add the Ac back to an R is there any difference to a 350 with track pack?
I think it looks great. Really fast cars like hellcats are appealing but you are only 1 twist of the ankle and a ticket away from mega $$$ and license suspension. Fsat cars to me need to be trackable, and still emtertaining on the road at more moderate speeds, while being tolerable comfort wise on the street.. The 350R if they have it done rigth may be the modern incarnation of a 250swb, a good fun to drive on street car that you can drive to the track, hammer all day and drive home. Not too many offerings like that, maybe the z28 or 997 Gt3(and thats out of prod). or it could be car like a M4, too heavy/soft for the track, or it could be like a z28 a bit too hard for the street, and a bit heavy for the track. Lets see if Ford hits a sweetspot. The motor sounds appealing its IRS, so have they added the necessary good bits, tuned the suspension well and is it lithe and robust. Is this the hold grail, an out the box car thta is robust and fun on the track, yet still somewhat streetable.
Carbon wheels won't be as expensive as you think to replace being that it's a Ford. CF is a hell of a lot cheaper than exotic companies lead you to believe...
They used to use Ford based engines but those have gone the wayside, starting with the CCX. 1000hp isn't that hard anymore what with modern turbochargers and whatnot.
