I think Ford just sent GM back to the drawing board Going to be real hard to beat the new GT Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks good but that V6 just isn't doing it for me. Kind of like dating a supermodel who has an 8PM bedtime...
The Ford seems to be built by outside suppliers in limited quantities for 300k a pop. It will probably be light, not necessarily built to a dailu useable standatd. Pure speculation but, The vette will cost half what the Gt does, it will be heavier but still probably around 3200lbs. Possibly a TTv6 as an option but V8 power will most def be a feature. The design may be less swoopy more NSX than Gt. It will be aproduction everyday useable type car and hapf the price of the ford.
This has to be the first VS. thread on the Internet between these two cars! So based on all the blue show car pics from the auto show I just could not make myself click the links to learn about the car. Or the NSX for that matter. The Gulf livery however just changed my interest level in this car ten fold.
Gulf livery looks great. Agree that the V6 was lame - Ford should have built a 427 side oiler for this one.
We haven't seen anything official from Chevy yet, but if the Zora is living underneath the skin of that ute mule we just saw, or if it looks anything like the Car & Driver Zora rendering, the GT will blow it out of the water. Unless GM starts all over from scratch, I can't see how any mid-engine Corvette they come up with could hold a candle to the car Ford just showed us.
Performance values for the '05-06 FGT: 060 mph (096 km/h): 3.5 seconds,[10] 3.7 seconds,[11] 3.8 seconds[12] 0100 mph (0160 km/h): 7.4 seconds[12] 0150 mph (0241 km/h): 16.9 seconds[13] Standing 1/4 mile (402 m): 11.2 seconds @ 131.2 mph (211.1 km/h),[12] 11.7 seconds @ 126.2 mph (203.1 km/h),[14] 11.88 seconds @ 124.31 mph (200.06 km/h)[15] Top speed: electronically limited to 205 mph (330 km/h)[16] All of which is as delivered without any mods. If the NGT (New GT) can beat the above numbers while still looking REALLY GOOD, WTF if it is V6-TT. However, must also say that the look of the NGT engine will be a lot different than the FGT engine, but really, who is going to care?: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree, but consider that the Zora would be more of a production vehicle - some rumors had it that the mid-engined chassis would eventually be the "base" Corvette too. The Ford GT is intended to be a super car - used also in racing IIRC. Can't really compare a mainstream car to a super car, at least in my opinion. I may be wrong about that, just my take...
Counting out the performance capabilities of a "Super Vette", would be a gross miscalculation-as competitors worldwide have been discovering for decades.
I agree. I thought the new car looked nice, not as nice as the older model, but nice. But the picture of the Gulf livery car definitely looks a lot better to me than the one at the Detroit auto show. The combination of the wheels and the rear spoiler add a lot to its presence.
I'm sure the Zora will have amazing performance but the bodies I've seen thus far are very plane jane. So far GT has the WOW factor by a mile

You're definitely right, but every magazine is going to force the comparison, and GM marketing is going to hail it as the second coming, as well as charge a seriously heavy premium for it over the loaded Z07's. But I completely agree with you, based on what we currently know (full blown, no excuse supercar vs. a Corvette with different geometry), there is really no comparison.
Those numbers quoted for the last Ford GT do not match any in road tests or comparison tests of stock cars I have seen.
The Corvette will not be lacking in any of the exotic bits that make a Supercar. It may not have the over wrought interiors that some have or the completely over the top styling-but it will have the goods where it counts and a great looking exterior.
What's the plan with the GT? How long will they make it (or is it a limited run)? My guess is this one appreciates as rapidly as the previous Ford GT...
