What would you expect for complete rebuild from decently respected vintage Mustang specialist?

    -machined and balanced
    -new pistons
    -new valves
    -new cam
-all new accessories (fuel pump, alternator, etc)
-paint & detail engine & bay

    Thanks!

Really depends on what your starting with and where you want to go, but I would guess a good rebuild with quality parts balanced and blueprinted carb to oil pan and run on dyno $6000+

Done properly by one of the best-every bit of 10K-engine,accessories,card blueprint, distributor blue print, etc.
I know a guy...the best I've ever encountered during decades of playing with domestic V8s-it cost me 3500 just to go through a new crate Hemi(unbelievable issues with a supposed RTR engine. Not uncommon). This guy has a distributor machine, bench flows carbs, etc.
Everyone can rebuild a small block Ford that will run OK-finding a true master is very difficult.
A concours detail of the engine and bay is an entirely different animal and will require many hours of labor depending on the starting point condition.

I paid roughly $1750 to rebuild both heads (new valves, etc) on my '69 Z28 and this was drive in and drive out. I can only assume the cost would have been similar on my '70 Boss.

that's why i think you go with a crate motor. likely better drive ability and power. keep the original on the side...

I spent over $10,000 doing similar work to my 1967 Pontiac GTO.
