Ferrari has announced that 2012 was a record-setting year for the company. The Italian automaker posted sales gains in most of its major markets last year, leading to a double-digit increase in net profit.

Ferrari's global sales jumped a modest 4.5 percent to 7,318 vehicles last year, but the Italian automaker posted impressive sales gains in several of its key markets.
In the United States, Ferrari's sales increased 14.6 percent to a record-setting 2,058 vehicles. Last year was the first time Ferrari sold more than 2,000 vehicles in the U.S.

Europe was a bit more challenging for Ferrari, but there were a few bright spots. Ferrari's UK sales increase 20.4 percent to 673 cars, while Switzerland saw a 17.4 percent sales gain to 357 deliveries. Germany, Ferrari's largest single market in Europe, posted an 8.2 percent sales improvement to 750 units.

However, Ferrari couldn't avoid the market collapse in its home country of Italy, where the automaker's sales fell 46 percent to 318 vehicles.

In the Greater China region, which includes the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Ferrari's sales increase 4 percent to 784 units. Ferrari says 500 of those cars were delivered to customers in China.

Ferrari also did a good job selling things that weren't cars in 2012, with the company's brand-related activities -- including retail, licensing and e-commerce – increasing 40 percent to $66.9 million.

Last year Ferrari posted revenues of $3.24 billion – an increase of 8 percent – translating into a net profit of $326.4 million, an increase of 17.8 percent.

“We are all enormously proud of ending the year with these kinds of results despite the unfavorable economic backdrop in many European nations, and the distinctly hostile one in Italy,” declared Chairman Luca di Montezemolo. “The credit for this goes to the men and women in Ferrari, the strength of the brand, a very complete and highly innovative range, and our gradual expansion into automotive markets worldwide.”

That's about 10% profit. Not a great looking figure in business POV but very encouraging for automaker & I think their branding products probably make better money.
