I got caught speeding last week. First time my Valentine One, hasn't picked up the camera, and I'm sure it was a fixed orange box (gatso), as I think I saw the flash in my rearview mirror. I'm concerned my Valentine didn't pick it up, anyone know if there's some new camera's being used?

V1 needs to be updated. Mine is 5 years old and only picks up the signal when next to or past the cameras. New type of average speed camera will be tested on the Shenzhen Bay bridge for those driving across the border and those may not be detectable, so look out!

Many of the speed cameras now deployed on HK roads operate on vertically-polarized, low power, narrow band Ka.

Do a google search for Redflex, and you'll find tons of information.
V1 has become useful for detecting the presence of Nissan Elgrand vans, as their collision avoidance systems operate on the same laser frequency and pulse as the V1's laser pickup.
Not much you can do with a V1 to protect against these new boxes.

I have limited first hand experience with the Stinger DSI, but I've received anecdotal reports that it is somewhat effective.

V1 is useless even if updated. Also be careful of SPECS

Will save myself the trouble of updating then, what's the best package available in terms of detection for Hk now?

    Thanks!

Haha...I guess the best solution is abide by the speed limit then!
