Going to hong hong in a week. Any restaurant recommendation?
what kind of food do you prefer? There have been lot of newrestaurants opening up in Hong Kong for Western cuisine. For Chinese cuisine it's a bit more traditional.
Din Tai Fung. - Din Tai Fung - Causway Bay or TST, good for lunch get there before 1230 to avoid a long wait list.
One of the best Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong is in Happy Valley on Sing woo road. You drive past HSBC up the hill and before you reach the gas station on the right, there is a green sign called "DIMSUM". It's a little bit more pricey but this place is really good. The phonetically it is called "Wee mun fong". I dont write Chinese so I can't tell you how it is spelled.
If you fency some meat, check out Morton's in Tsim Sha Tsui. Fantastic food and beautiful view (quite expensive). if you want italian, head to Piola in Soho (average price but in my mind the best italian restaurant around Hong Kong).
1. Fancy or hole-in-the-wall? 2. Chinese or some other cuisine? If Chinese, regional preferences? 3. Gimmicky/tourist trap OK?
It's funny, almost always I find visitors much prefer the 'ordinary local' restaurant experience rather than the fancy places. If there's time I usually try 1 fancy (such as Fook Lam Mun) and 1 ordinary such as Crystal Jade which is always a hit and don't forget Jumbo floating restaurant at Aberdeen (it's actually pretty good food). Also second the Ye Shanghai option. Several times I've invited visitors to join my office colleagues for dim sum and invariably it's reported as the best fun dining experience of their trip. I think they key is it's something different and unique to what they experience at home.
