Car going up for auction 1 owner reads well.Anyone know it.www.shannons.com.au
That does look very very nice. 10,000km on the clock. Did they buy it and lose the keys for it which in turn, they were not able to drive it or something?
When new a mate now in QLD bought a 9month car from Duttons, long time FCA member Peter Jones. Was a nice car to drive ,he and us his poor mates had a lot of fun.
Before that car he had a very early 246 dino that had been converted from lhd to rhd.Very early had Splined hubs and some 206 features think it ended up in Japan, sweet car to drive,we often went up into the Dandenong hills with it.
Sounds great. I have never been to the Dandenong hills, but I can imagine that it would be great fun in a Ferrari.
348 would be good, grunt to get out the corners from memory the 246 was fast but you had to keep the speed threw the corners, otherwise she lost it a bit.
Has done a lot of group nc historic touring car racing in cortinas and BDA powered Escorts.Always has big HP motors, not scared of spending $$$.So 308 QV should be a good car if his racing cars are anything to go by
With his racing career number one priority, it seems he neglected to drive his QV. Looks like a very nice car and I hope it goes to a nice home too.
wow thats stunning....a very nice alternative to a 80k ish Porsche! what are the maintenance/etc requirements for a 308 as compared to the newer 348/355 stuff? it says it has been regularly serviced....if this is the case, given such low kms...would it take much to make it 'everyday' reliable? would such low kms affect its engine condition compared to a car thats been more regularly exercised/serviced??
I believe that would be the ex-Ian Johnson 246. It was a very early car, the headrests were on the firewall rather than the seats. Ian had researched it extensively, it was converted in the UK then went back to the factory as the RHD prototype, which makes it historically quite significant. In an only slightly-related vein, here's a pic of the original Dino 246 show-car in the Le Mans museum. Image Unavailable, Please Login
' well even a mod could call a spade a shovel I think Ash and I should do it, would give a lot of latitude to people plus you forget there are "other" nongs out there with QVs
Spoke to PJ,since the GTE,has had 355 and 360.Ian is correct about dino it was a alloy car and PJ sold it to a melbourne stock broker, car had a 206 Chassis# and he felt it was a pre 246 prototype. And has never seen it since.
Only problem with that Dino is that it had a later 246 engine in it. Ian used the original alloy-block engine in his recreation of a 246 F1 car. A very convincing replica, done at a time when the donor 246 was only worth about $25K. But eventually the current owner will have to do a deal with the owner of the replica to get his engine back. btw. Ian took the gearbox off the bottom of the motor and mounted it at the rear as a transaxle. Looked odd but it worked. The F1 car needed a longitudinally mounted engine of course.
Is this the early knock off wheel Dino that was restored in Bris in the early eighties that were talking about? Was at the Brisbane Motor Show too?
