Got something to gripe about? I have. A truck rolled over on the entrance to the Bolte Bridge north bound today. What a total screw up for '000s of people coming home after a long weekend by this idiot of a driver. There's NEVER any excuse for this to happen. I hope they throw the book at him so hard that it puts other so called 'professional' truck drivers on notice that their poor driving will not be tolerated. My blood still boils about the DH whose truck was too high for the Monash causing him to run into the MacRobertson Bridge (1 of only a couple of bridges where the Yarra can be crossed) putting it out of commission for months. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The accident may not have been his/her fault. Could have had a sudden deflation on the steer, swerved to avoid an errant taxi or drunk, we'll probably never know. None the less, the chance of it being the drivers fault is certainly far higher than what I've mentioned. Truck drivers cavalier behaviour on the roads over the last few years has been a pet subject of mine for quite some time! RIP the old Barina! How about the southbound way. 1 lane off the bridge heading into the city. When I was there last yr a truck did the same thing. It was quicker to go straight, head toward the westgate then turn around and head to the city. I drove the ring road everyday as well. 1 time driving to the airport and had a semi trying to speed up while in his far left lane, then cut infront of me as it was ending. I didn't budge and he ended up in the service lane. Then thought it fun to sit about 1 metre behind me the rest of the way. No respect for drugged up truck drivers here . . .
Driving along the Loddon HWY yesterday, had a Skyline coming in the opposite direction pull out to overtake some cars. It involved me hitting the brakes, getting down from 100km/h to about 30 or 40 and running onto the side of the road to avoid hitting him. That was fun. Should have saved my trip to see my parents for another weekend...
You Aussies have it easy when it comes to lackadaisical lorry drivers... (except maybe Carl) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lze88sU9IGg[/ame] Ah, the A1M... a road where the lorry drivers can concentrate on anything other than driving. All the best, Andrew.
He was trying to push in while I was only just behind his cab with other cars behind me and next to me, when all he had to do was slow down and merge behind.
The biggest ****up of all time. 70% of the traffic continues onto the eastern suburbs and what do they do, force them into one lane creating a traffic jam heading back towards the airport. I had lunch with PP the other day in Docklands and chose to use the Bolte Bridge to get home. Even mid afternoon it was a traffic jam. And then they have the cheek to charge you a toll.
Make up your mind Paps, you were only saying the other day you wanted to live here. One day your gunna fall off that fence and make a decision mate.
I bet! Already told ya's, as soon as I find a job paying $120K+ I will either move there, Sydney or the Gold Coast. Just need to find that income first..............and we both know that is not going to happen.
No-one was hurt or charged. Arclid the drivers company was unaware (they claim) until march, two months later, when the clip hit u-tube Nth Yorkeshire police say they attended an incident involving a Daf and a Clio on that section in january but they were already stationary on the hard shoulder when officers arrived. The Clio's tyres were still intact.
Was out for my run today and stopped and had a little look at the Monash while I was crossing over the top of it here http://goo.gl/maps/X49p . 1/3 of all trucks were driving in the RH lane and tailgating. Something needs to be done.
Agree PP. I use the Monash everyday to go to work. On some ocassions I have B doubles less than 3 meters off my backside. Very intimidating. And this is in the left lane as well at times. Coppers are too busy catching people doing 3kph over the limit. Thats more dangerous.
What's really contrasting is the good behaviour I found on the Autostrada.. While many places it was just 2 lanes each way like ours the trucks kept to right lane modest speed and I didn't see any pull out in front of any cars doing 130-150ish or make any bad decisions affecting anyone else. I love (not) the way here you can be bearing down on 2 trucks chugging along and truck 2 will pull out with less than 50m before you pass both and with just 2 km/h differential pass truck 1.. WTF.. give me literally 5 sec mate I'd be past BOTH of you.. instead I now have taken best part of 2 minutes thanks to you not waiting just a few seconds.. Amazing how the roads and vehicles can be the same but a driving culture can be so different with SUCH different outcomes..
