Anyone, other than me, remember this gorgeous F1 Ferrari at the old Gilltraps museum at Coolangatta many years ago ? I use to sit in this car for an hour every month when I was on my first marriage, the wife use to take the baby to Rainbow beach while I imagined what it would be like to drive this thing. They made them for proper sized people back then Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Museum moved to Dreamworld and Gilltraps started selling cars on consignment but skipped town with the cash. This car from memory was listed as a 625 but I'm not positive it is as I have looked at other 625s and they have different fairings around the cockput but then they could have easily changed that for different tracks
Type 555 Super Squalo. ex works,Arnold Glass,Giltrap, sold by a shifty broker to Obrist then Bernie E,now in the USA. Did about 5 GPs.Nothing special in its racing results. Another car sold O/seas by a broker.
that's it Rob, Super Squalo, geez you've got a good memory I haven't seen this car in 35 yrs, I wonder if they left it as it was ?
Between ex works and Trinkets Glass this car had an exceptional race history in OZ & NZ and should not be forgotten. The people who have owned it since trinkets have done nothing to enhance the history of a very nice car. The car was raced in 1956 at Albert Park and as a kid I first spied it in 1957. It would be a terrible shame if it was only remembered in OZ as a deal on wheels.
thats a big call 6th at the '56 AGP and a 2nd at the Bathurst 100 ,exceptional? NZ ok grand prix win and some other races, but the fields were ordinary in 1957 when Parnell and Whitehead raced them.
OK you may have a better recollection than a kid at the time but..... in 1957 Maserati 250F's were in the hands of Stan Jones, Jack Brabham, Reg Hunt & Horace Gould. They certainly did not walk it from the 555's
Arnold Glass had one good drive in that car the Bathurst 100.By 1957 Reg had retired.Jones was the man also with Davo in his Ferrari plus many good results from the best of 'em Doug Whiteford in the 300S.
Ex Works Parnell won the NZGP in 1957. Glass returned in 1958 and finished 12th. After blowing an engine at the Bathurst 100 in 1958, Glass returned to NZ for the 1959 GP again for 12th. Other owners included Arthur Griffiths & Des Kelly. The former Rotorua-based Giltrap family bought the car and it resided for many years in their Surfers Paradise museum.
that old hotel is a ripper,I went when my friend Minogue was racing the Lola T430,we had a week holiday with our then wives.
Has Bob changed from Cath. I thought that they were the real deal. [12 months ago] I will ring him in the morning and tell him what a tosser he has turned out to be.
